Fabrication of single color centers in sub-50 nm nanodiamonds using ion implantation

Xiaohui Xu et al.

Summary: Diamond color centers, particularly the negatively charged silicon vacancy (SiV-) center, have been intensively studied for their potential applications in quantum information technologies, biological imaging, and sensing. In this study, we successfully created single SiV- centers in nanodiamonds through ion implantation, exhibiting stable high-purity single-photon emission with narrow linewidths, offering new possibilities for quantum photonics, sensing, and biomedicine.

Size Effects on Surface Chemistry and Raman Spectra of Sub-5 nm Oxidized High-Pressure High-Temperature and Detonation Nanodiamonds

Stepan Stehlik et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of size on the surface chemistry, microscopic structure, and Raman scattering of nanodiamonds, revealing size-dependent and synthesis-dependent differences in their properties. By analyzing particle size distribution and comparing detonation and high-pressure high-temperature nanodiamonds, the study identified effects of diamond core size, defects, chemical stability, and phonon confinement models. Additionally, low-frequency Raman scattering was observed, suggesting confined acoustic vibrational modes in the nanodiamonds.

Sub-4 nm Nanodiamonds from Graphene-Oxide and Nitrated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons at 423 K

Yuting Shen et al.

Summary: Nanodiamonds were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method with graphene-oxide or nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as starting materials, resulting in nanodiamonds with diameters in the 2-3 nm range. Theoretical calculations suggest that sub-4 nm nanodiamonds may have a more stable structure than graphene-oxide and nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons at the nanoscale.

Fabrication of Detonation Nanodiamonds Containing Silicon-Vacancy Color Centers by High Temperature Annealing

Konosuke Shimazaki et al.

Summary: SiV color centers are created in DNDs through annealing treatment in high vacuum up to 1100 degrees C. The precursor of the SiV centers is pristine silicon impurities inside the nanodiamond lattice. Electron irradiated DNDs before annealing show characteristic emission lines of SiV centers.
