Subacute 28 days oral toxicity study of kaempferol and biochanin-A in the mouse model

Padma Yangzom et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the safety of kaempferol (KEM) and biochanin-A (BCA) in mice following subacute exposure. The results showed that the administration of KEM and BCA for 28 days did not cause any toxicity or adverse effects in terms of clinical signs, body weight, organ weights, haematological and biochemical parameters, oxidative stress parameters, and histopathology. The study suggests that KEM and BCA have no adverse effects on the general physiology in mice.

Anti-Proliferative and Anti-Metastatic Effects of Ethanol Extract from Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. Roots and its Sub-Fractions in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Thuy-Lan Thi Vo et al.

Summary: The sub-fraction EECRp70 from the roots of pigeon pea exhibits anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic effects on oral squamous cell carcinoma cells, possibly through modulation of iNOS/COX-2/NF-kappa B signaling pathways. It contains flavonoids like genistein and cajanol, contributing to its efficacy in inhibiting cell proliferation and metastasis.

Insulin Sensitizer and Antihyperlipidemic Effects of Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. Root in Methylglyoxal-Induced Diabetic Rats

Shu-Er Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that extracts from the root of pigeon pea can protect rats from methylglyoxal-induced insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia. The extracts have the potential to lower blood glucose levels and counteract high lipid levels, possibly through inhibiting carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes and reducing the formation of advanced glycation end products.

A Review of the Toxicity and Phytochemistry of Medicinal Plant Species Used by Herbalists in Treating People Living With HIV/AIDS in Uganda

G. Anywar et al.

Summary: Most of the plant species lack detailed phytochemical analyses and quantification of their constituents, with crude plant extracts being the most commonly used. Different solvents were used for extraction and cytotoxicity varied with cell type, solvent, and extract type, making direct comparison difficult. Some plant extracts have potential as anticancer or anti-tumour drugs, but more toxicological studies in animals and humans are needed.

Effects of Soy Isoflavones on Glycemic Control and Lipid Profile in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Agnieszka Baranska et al.

Summary: The study found that soy protein and isoflavones have significant effects in reducing total cholesterol and LDL-C concentrations, but their impact on HDL-C and triglyceride levels is not significant. However, the effects on glucose and insulin metabolism are not significant. Therefore, larger and longer studies are still needed to determine their benefits in glucose and lipid metabolism.

Validation of an optimized HPLC-UV method for the quantification of formononetin and biochanin A in Trifolium pratense extract

Ju Sung Lee et al.

Summary: Formononetin and biochanin A in Trifolium pratense were quantified using HPLC-UV, showing excellent linearity and resolution. This study developed a reliable and sensitive method for rapid identification and quantification of T. pratense extract, demonstrating the potential for further research and applications in pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals.
