Serum proteome and metabolome uncover novel biomarkers for the assessment of disease activity and diagnosing of systemic lupus erythematosus

Jingquan He et al.

Summary: Proteomics and metabolomics analyses of serum from SLE patients and healthy individuals revealed significant changes in 90 proteins and 76 metabolites. Several apolipoproteins and a metabolite were associated with disease activity, while others were correlated with renal function. Using these significantly changed molecules, a random forest model identified potential biomarkers for SLE diagnosis.

Anandamide and other N-acylethanolamines: A class of signaling lipids with therapeutic opportunities

Elliot D. Mock et al.

Summary: N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) are a family of lipid messengers that play numerous roles in health and disease, including inflammation, anxiety, and energy metabolism. These signaling lipids exert their effects through activation of various receptors and channels in the brain and periphery. The oxidative metabolites of NAEs have been less studied but are emerging as important regulators of disease severity in various conditions. This review comprehensively discusses the biosynthesis and degradation of NAEs, their metabolism, and their therapeutic potential in modulating endogenous NAE levels.

The Expanded Endocannabinoid System Contributes to Metabolic and Body Mass Shifts in First-Episode Schizophrenia: A 5-Year Follow-Up Study

Madis Parksepp et al.

Summary: This study found alterations in the expanded endocannabinoid system and cell membrane composition in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The concentration of endocannabinoids and their precursors in the serum was associated with disease progression and treatment. These findings have important implications for understanding the metabolic changes in schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Supplementation with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum IMC 510 Modifies Microbiota Composition and Prevents Body Weight Gain Induced by Cafeteria Diet in Rats

Maria Vittoria Micioni Di Bonaventura et al.

Summary: The study found that L. plantarum IMC 510 has beneficial effects on reducing food intake, weight gain, improving body mass index, liver and white adipose tissue weight in a rat model of diet-induced obesity, potentially through leptin control. Additionally, this probiotic has beneficial effects on gut microbiota by limiting microbial imbalance and preserving the proportion of different bacterial taxa.

Adjunctive Probiotics Alleviates Asthmatic Symptoms via Modulating the Gut Microbiome and Serum Metabolome

Ailing Liu et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrated that co-administering Probio-M8 with conventional therapy can alleviate asthma symptoms and have a positive effect on diseases associated with the gut-lung axis by activating multiple anti-inflammatory pathways. These findings provide new insights into the pathogenesis and treatment of asthma, mechanisms of novel therapeutic strategies, and the application of probiotics-based therapy.

Endocannabinoids, endocannabinoid-like molecules and their precursors in human small intestinal lumen and plasma: does diet affect them?

Silvia Tagliamonte et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the concentration of endocannabinoids, N-acylethanolamines, and N-acylphosphatidylethanolamines in the small intestine of humans and their relationship with diet composition and inflammatory status. The results showed that fat and energy intake may influence the concentrations of these compounds in plasma and intestinal lumen, which could potentially modulate food intake control via GPR119 receptors.
