Associations Between Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Resting-State Functional Connectivity in Cognitively Unimpaired Midlife Adults

Tianqi Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between IGF-1 levels and neural network activity in 13,235 UK Biobank participants. The findings suggest that higher IGF-1 levels are associated with increased activity in the Executive Function neural network, and the relationship between IGF-1 and network activity may be modified by sex, APOE4 genotype, and age.

Association between animal protein sources and risk of neurodegenerative diseases: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis

Sepide Talebi et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that consuming fish is associated with a reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and cognitive impairment. Higher intake of total dairy and milk is significantly associated with an increased risk of Parkinson's disease. Moreover, the intake of total dairy, total meat, and poultry is significantly associated with a lower risk of cognitive impairment. There is a strong linear association between fish consumption and reduced risk of dementia.

Central Executive and Default Mode Networks: An Appraisal of Executive Function and Social Skill Brain-Behavior Correlates in Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Jessica Blume et al.

Summary: This study found that individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) may have difficulties in behavior regulation due to impaired connectivity between the central executive network (CEN) and default mode network (DMN), and their social skill difficulties may be exacerbated by impaired within-DMN connectivity.

APOE, TOMM40, and sex interactions on neural network connectivity

Tianqi Li et al.

Summary: APOE ε4 carriers showed weaker connectivity in multiple networks, while '650 G carriers had higher connectivity in the language comprehension network. In APOE ε4 carriers, '650 G carriers exhibited decreased network strength with age, which was observed in women but not men among non-G carriers. TOMM40 may modulate network activity in aging APOE ε4 carriers depending on sex.

Estimation of the global prevalence of dementia in 2019 and forecasted prevalence in 2050: an analysis for the Global Burden of Disease 2019

Emma Nichols et al.

Summary: With projected trends in population ageing and growth, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase. Understanding the distribution and magnitude of anticipated growth is crucial for public health planning and resource prioritization, with a focus on potentially modifiable risk factors.

Dairy intake and incident functional disability among older Japanese adults: the Ohsaki Cohort 2006 Study

Summary: This study examined the association between dairy intake and functional disability in Japanese older adults. The findings suggest that there is no evidence to support a link between dairy intake and the risk of functional disability.

Associations of dairy, meat, and fish intakes with risk of incident dementia and with cognitive performance: the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study (KIHD)

Maija P. T. Ylilauri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between dairy, meat, and fish intake and the risk of dementia and cognitive performance. The results showed that cheese intake is associated with a lower risk of dementia, while higher intakes of non-fermented dairy and milk are associated with worse verbal fluency. Higher intake of processed red meat is associated with worse verbal and visual memory, while higher intake of unprocessed red meat is associated with better general cognitive functioning and processing speed. Higher fish intake is associated with better verbal memory.

Dairy Product Consumption and Changes in Cognitive Performance: Two-Year Analysis of the PREDIMED-Plus Cohort

Jiaqi Ni et al.

Summary: This study found that older adults with higher consumption of total milk and whole-fat milk are more likely to experience a decline in cognitive function, while consumption of low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese or fermented dairy had no significant impact.

Summary: The study found that greater consumption of milk and dairy products may be associated with a higher risk of cognitive decline, particularly whole-fat milk. Conversely, lower milk intake was linked with less risk of cognitive impairment.

Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese Intake Is Positively Associated With Cognitive Executive Functions in Older Adults of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging

Anne-Julie Tessier et al.

Summary: In this study involving older adults, dairy product intake was positively associated with executive function, verbal fluency, and memory domains independently of important covariates. These findings suggest a specific role for dairy components in cognitive performance, particularly in phonemic verbal fluency and memory. Dairy product intake may be a modifiable factor targeted in interventions promoting cognitive health.
