Extraction optimization, structure features, and bioactivities of two polysaccharides from Corydalis decumbens

Zhaojing Wang et al.

Summary: Two polysaccharides (CPS1 and CPW2) from Corydalis decumbens were extracted, purified, and characterized. CPS1 showed stronger antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects compared to CPW2. CPS1 had a four-helix conformation and consisted of glucose, galactose, mannose, and arabinose, while CPW2 was a linear molecule composed of glucose.

Influence of the extraction method on the recovery of bioactive phenolic compounds from food industry by-products

Emilio Gil-Martin et al.

Summary: Agro-food industries produce a large amount of non-edible waste and by-products, which can be used as raw materials for recovering active phytochemicals. Phenolic compounds are particularly important in this field due to their abundance in plant residues and their functional properties in nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and biomedical formulations. Sample extraction is necessary in research as it improves the value of target phytochemicals through desorption and dissolution of the matrix.

Oryzanol Attenuates High Fat and Cholesterol Diet-Induced Hyperlipidemia by Regulating the Gut Microbiome and Amino Acid Metabolism

Sisi Yan et al.

Summary: This study explored the function of oryzanol in reducing hyperlipidemia and its effect on gut microbiota and metabolites. The results showed that oryzanol decreased fat accumulation and improved lipid profile in hamsters fed a high fat and cholesterol diet. Oryzanol also influenced the gut microbiota and amino acid concentrations. The study suggests that oryzanol targets the gut microbiota to exert its antihyperlipidemic effect.

Summary: Rice bran is a nutrient-rich by-product of the rice milling process, mainly used as animal feed but also known for its various health benefits in humans. Its functional components have been shown to have positive effects on diabetes, lipid levels, blood pressure, antioxidant activity, and inflammation, while also improving bowel function. These health benefits have led to increased interest in rice bran in food applications and as a nutraceutical product.

α-Tocopherol suppresses hepatic steatosis by increasing CPT-1 expression in a mouse model of diet-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Masanori Tokoro et al.

Summary: The study found that low-dose alpha-Toc can reduce hepatic fat accumulation induced by high-fat diet and protect the expression of CPT-1, while high-dose alpha-Toc does not have these effects. This suggests that the effect of vitamin E on NAFLD may not be dose-dependent.
