Effect of pulsed laser frequency on microstructure and mechanical properties of 2219 aluminum alloy welded joints

Chao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, pulsed laser welding was used to join 2219 aluminum alloy sheets, resulting in a welded joint with good macroscopic morphology, high mechanical properties, and little thermal deformation. Cu segregates in the form of alpha-Al + Al2Cu eutectics at the grain boundary. Increasing the pulse frequency gradually improved the macro-morphology of the weld and weakened the micro-segregation of Cu in the weld zone. There is no preferred orientation for grain growth in the weld zone.

Improvement in tensile properties of 2219-T8 aluminum alloy TIG welding joint by PMZ local properties and stress distribution

Zhandong Wan et al.

Summary: The tensile properties of 2219-T8 aluminum alloy TIG welding joints were improved by enhancing the local properties of the partially melted zone (PMZ) and adjusting the stress distribution at the weld toe. Refining the grain size and controlling the theta phase particles in the base metal effectively increased the tensile strength and elongation of the PMZ.

Influence of rotational speed on the electrical and mechanical properties of the friction stir spot welded aluminium alloy sheets

Danka Labus Zlatanovic et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of rotational speed on the mechanical and electrical properties of friction stir spot welded aluminum. The results show that samples welded at a lower rotational speed (1000 rpm) have higher shear failure load and microhardness, but also a greater increase in electrical resistance.

Unveiling Liquation and Segregation Induced Failure Mechanism in Thick Dissimilar Aluminum Alloy Electron-Beam Welds

P. Mastanaiah et al.

Summary: This study presents new findings on the failure mechanism of thick dissimilar EB welds. Unlike prior studies on thin Al alloy EB welding, liquation and Cu segregation were observed in the thick EB welds. The investigation suggests that heat input, cooling rates, and base material thickness all affect the weld performance. The failure mechanism is explained through a heat-transfer analysis.

Analysis and characterization of dynamic recrystallization and grain structure evolution in friction stir welding of aluminum plates

Pengfei Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, a model for numerical simulation of dynamic recrystallization in friction stir welding of aluminum plates was developed using the Monte Carlo method. The predicted evolution of grain structures in the welds showed good agreement with experimentally measured values. The analysis revealed different DRX mechanisms along the material flowing path during friction stir welding, with the tool rotation speed determining the type of DRX that occurs at different positions.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the electron-beam welded joints of cast Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloy

Jian Wang et al.

Summary: The microstructures, hardness distribution and strengthening mechanisms of the electron-beam welded joints of cast Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloy plate were investigated. It was found that the precipitation of fine Omega, theta' plates and dispersed precipitates after post-welding heat treatment is the main reason for the increase in strength of the welded joint.

Effect of laser power on the grain morphology and microhardness of dual laser-beam bilateral synchronous welded 2219 aluminium alloy T-joint

Yue Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that as the welding heat input increases, the grain quantity and microhardness of the welded joint also increase. Additionally, the influence of laser power on the grain size at the edge of the weld seam is greater than in the center of the weld, and the microhardness of the non-dendritic equiaxed zone decreases with the increase of laser power.
