Summary: Three biomaterials used for 3D printing in dentistry were compared in terms of biomechanical properties, fractal dimension, and texture. The results showed that these materials had different values for the studied properties, with IBT material showing the most significant changes in texture and BioMed Amber material having the most stable mechanical properties.

Summary: Lithium-based glass-ceramics are widely used in dental restorative materials. This study characterized the microstructure, crystalline fraction, glass chemistry, and mechanical properties of eleven commercial dental lithium-based glass ceramics. The results showed significant differences in chemical composition, microstructure, crystallinity, and mechanical properties among these materials. The findings provide valuable information for dentists to make informed choices.

Effect of artificial aging on the translucency of monolithic zirconia materials sintered at different temperatures

Burcu Kanpalta et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the translucency of recently developed zirconia materials after different sintering temperatures and the effect of artificial aging. The results showed that artificial aging increased the translucency of the materials, while the sintering temperature did not have a significant effect. These findings suggest that the use of fully stabilized zirconia may be an alternative to lithium disilicate in esthetic restorations in clinical practice.

Flexural strength and translucency characterization of aesthetic monolithic zirconia and relevance to clinical indications: A systematic review

Salma M. Fathy et al.

Summary: Recent improvements in monolithic zirconia with higher yttria content have shown significant enhancements in translucency and flexural strength. However, compared to glass ceramics, monolithic zirconia still lacks unique translucency and may sacrifice some mechanical performance while improving aesthetically. Careful consideration is needed when using thin sections of aesthetic zirconia structures, especially in high bearing stress areas.

The effects of thickness and shade on translucency parameters of contemporary, esthetic dental ceramics

Ioana Sofia Pop-Ciutrila et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing thickness resulted in decreased translucency for all ceramic materials, with any increase in thickness of 0.3-0.5 mm for restorations thicker than 0.9-mm producing a noticeable translucency variation. Increases in thickness larger than 0.6-mm led to an unacceptable translucency shift.

Summary: In this study, the translucency and opalescence of different monolithic ceramics were compared, with zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate and presintered zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate specimens showing the highest values. Zirconia groups had significantly lower translucency compared to other groups. The differences in translucency and opalescence among the materials were related to their optical characteristics.
