Study on Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Laminates at Ultra-Low Temperatures

Wenhao Zhao et al.

Summary: This study explores the dynamic mechanical properties and damage evolution of CFRP laminates at ultra-low temperatures using experimental methods, theoretical research, and numerical prediction. Through the establishment of an ultra-low temperature dynamic experimental platform and the Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) device, the dynamic mechanical properties of the laminates were tested, and the damage evolution process was observed. The results show that the compression strength and modulus increase with the strain rate, while they follow a quadratic trend with the decrease in temperature. The damage degree of the dynamic bending sample increases with impact velocity and initially decreases and then increases with temperature decrease. A numerical model based on low-temperature dynamic damage constitutive and interlayer interface damage constitutive was established to predict the dynamic mechanical properties and damage evolution of CFRP laminates at ultra-low temperatures, and the finite element analysis (FEA) results are consistent with the experimental results.

Dynamic Mechanical Behavior of Hierarchical Resin Honeycomb by 3D Printing

Huan Hong et al.

Summary: This paper utilized 3D printing technology to prepare resin honeycomb materials with different levels and studied their mechanical properties. The study revealed that multi-level hierarchical honeycomb (MHH) has better mechanical properties compared to single-level hierarchical honeycomb (SHH). Increasing the hierarchical level of honeycomb can improve the mechanical properties of the materials.

Mechanical properties of fused filament fabricated PEEK for biomedical applications depending on additive manufacturing parameters

Yiqiao Wang et al.

Summary: Design of experiments was used to study the impact of 3D printing parameters on the quality of PEEK parts, with bending and compression tests conducted for quantitative evaluation. Nozzle diameter, nozzle temperature, and printing speed were found to be crucial factors affecting the performance of the printed PEEK samples. Optimal mechanical properties and dimension accuracy were achieved by optimizing the parameter combinations.

Effect of basalt fiber on tribological and mechanical properties of polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) composites

Bowen Wang et al.

Summary: Short basalt fiber reinforced PEEK composites exhibit increased surface roughness, decreased friction coefficient, and the lowest specific wear rate, along with good ultimate tensile strength and elongation at break. Thermal and rheological behaviors of the composites were also investigated to understand the effect of basalt fiber on the crystallization performance and flow abilities of PEEK composites.

Mechanical behavior of sandwich structures with varying core material ? A review

Mathew Alphonse et al.

Summary: This investigation focuses on reviewing the mechanical behavior of sandwich structures made of two metal plates and a core material, analyzing the properties under varying loads to compare individual strength and mechanical characteristics with different alloys and composite materials of same weight. The results aim to demonstrate the potential applications of these sandwich structures in engineering fields, as well as comparing them with properties of sandwich structures using different core materials.
