Thermoelastic stability of thin CNT-reinforced composite cylindrical panels with elastically restrained edges under nonuniform in-plane temperature distribution

Le Thi Nhu Trang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear thermoelastic stability of nanocomposite curved panels under nonuniform temperature distribution. The results show that thermal instability can occur in cylindrical panels under sinusoidal temperature distribution, and the load carrying capacity is the weakest for an intermediate value of CNT volume fraction.

Thermoelastic stability of CNT patterned conical shells under thermal loading in the framework of shear deformation theory

M. Avey et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermoelastic stability of carbon nanotube (CNT) patterned composite conical shells using the shear deformation theory (ST). Two different boundary value problems are considered, depending on whether material properties are temperature independent or dependent. The study derives the basic equations for CNT patterned truncated conical shells using the modified Donnell-type shell theory and applies the Galerkin method to find the critical temperature and critical axial load expressions. The effects of CNT patterns, volume fraction, radius-to-thickness and length-to-thickness ratios, as well as the half-peak angle on critical parameters within the ST are estimated by comparison with classical shell theory (CT).

Mathematical modeling and solution of nonlinear vibration problem of laminated plates with CNT originating layers interacting with two-parameter elastic foundation

M. Avey et al.

Summary: In this study, the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FOPT) proposed by Ambartsumyan is extended to heterogeneous laminated nanocomposite plates and the nonlinear vibration problem. An elastic medium is considered for the first time, using the Pasternak-type elastic foundation model (PT-EF). The mathematical models of laminated rectangular plates with CNT originating layers on the PT-EF are created, and the large amplitude stress-strain relationships and motion equations are derived within FOPT. By applying Galerkin's method, the derived equations are reduced to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (NL-ODE) for laminated rectangular plates composed of nanocomposite layers. The NL-ODE is solved by the semi-inverse method, and the nonlinear frequency-amplitude relationship is established for the laminated plates resting on the PT-EF within FOPT for the first time. From these relations, similar relations for unconstrained laminated and monolayer CNT patterns plates can be obtained.

Nonlinear thermo-mechanical static analysis of toroidal shells made of nanocomposite/fiber reinforced composite plies surrounded by elastic medium

Mohammad Amin Shahmohammadi et al.

Summary: This article evaluates the geometrical nonlinear behavior of toroidal shell segments under axial edge-loading and external pressure surrounded by an elastic medium, taking into account thermal effects. The article proposes an analytical solution using the Galerkin method based on the first-order shear deformation theory. The proposed method provides a robust tool for the geometrical nonlinear static analysis of hybrid composite shells with no computational efforts and is simpler than previous formulations. Verification procedures and parametric studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for nonlinear analysis of such shells.

Post-buckling analysis of GPLs reinforced porous cylindrical shells under axial compression and hydrostatic pressure

Guangxin Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, the post-buckling behavior of composite porous cylindrical shells under axial compression and hydrostatic pressure is investigated using the moderately thick shell theory. The accuracy of the solutions is validated by comparing them with existing theoretical and experimental data. The study reveals that the geometry and material properties significantly affect the post-buckling behavior and knockdown factor of the cylindrical shell, and also explains and discusses the discrepancies between the classical thin-walled shell theory and the moderately thick shell theory.
