Bond Behavior of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Polymer Bars in Recycled Coarse Aggregate Concrete

Ahmed Godat et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the bond stress-slip behavior of BFRP bars in recycled coarse aggregate concrete, finding that the bond resistance of BFRP bars in recycled coarse aggregate concrete is comparable to normal aggregate concrete. Theoretical equations from the literature were compared to experimental results, with the equation described by Orangun and colleagues showing an 86% accuracy in predicting the bond resistance for BFRP bars in recycled coarse aggregate concrete. High concrete strength and longer bond length can reduce the pull-out failure of BFRP bars.

Rehabilitation of seismic-damaged reinforced concrete beam-column joints with different corrosion rates using basalt fiber-reinforced polymer sheets

Ming Li et al.

Summary: The seismic performance of seismic-damaged corroded RC specimens can be effectively improved through rehabilitation with BFRP sheets, which delay concrete spalling and crushing, as well as the buckling of stirrups. The rehabilitated specimens exhibit better ductile behaviors and significantly enhanced ultimate displacements, final stiffness, and total cumulative energy dissipation.

Effect of basalt fiber on the thermal conductivity and wear resistance of sintered WC-based diamond composites

C. Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal conductivity and wear resistance of WC-based diamond composites prepared using WC-based matrix powder, BF, and diamond. The addition of BF significantly reduced the wear resistance, but a moderate amount of BF increased the matrix density and reduced the number of pores. The composite with 1% BF addition exhibited the highest thermal conductivity.

Long-Chain Branched Polypropylene: Effects of Chain Architecture, Melt Structure, Shear Modification, and Solution Treatment on Melt Relaxation Dynamics

Dietrich Gloger et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the shear modification of long-chain branched polypropylene (LCB PP) and investigates the chain architecture, branch content, linear viscoelasticity, and recovery mechanisms in solution. The study reveals that shear modification is not fully reversible due to chain breakage in the high molar mass tail or larger structures not detected by gel permeation chromatography. Shear modification deforms chain conformations, perturbs long-range melt order, and affects the mixing quality between linear and branched chains. In solution, recovery mechanisms involve chain swelling and redistribution of linear and branched chains.

3D printing-enabled self-assembling β-nucleating agent alignment: Structural evolution and mechanical performances

Rui Han et al.

Summary: Achieving good alignment of fillers is crucial for the development of high-performance 3D printed objects. This study investigated the influence of printing speed on the alignment of self-assembling beta-nucleating agent (SANA(beta)) within the isotactic polypropylene (iPP) matrix, as well as the crystalline structure and mechanical properties of the printed samples. The results showed that the alignment of SANA(beta) was enhanced due to the converging nozzle effect, leading to the transformation of the crystal morphology and improved mechanical properties. The aligned SANA(beta) also helped maintain a high beta-crystal content, overcoming the limitations of rapid decrease in beta-crystal for iPP at high printing speeds.

Mechanical properties and microstructure of nano-SiO2 and basalt-fiber-reinforced recycled aggregate concrete

Yuanxun Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, nano-SiO2 and basalt fiber were used to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete. The effects of different contents and lengths of basalt fiber on the mechanical properties of the concrete were analyzed, as well as the micro-composite effect between nano-SiO2 and basalt fiber. The study found that the optimum modified concentration of nano-SiO2 was 2%, and the optimum length and content of basalt fiber were 12 mm and 0.2%, respectively. The addition of basalt fiber significantly increased the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength of the concrete.

Enhanced mechanical and thermal performance of multiwalled carbon nanotubes-filled polypropylene/natural rubber thermoplastic elastomers

Sharika T. Nair et al.

Summary: The study found that multiwalled carbon nanotubes significantly improved the tensile toughness and impact strength of polypropylene/natural rubber blends, especially at a 5wt% concentration. The toughening effect of MWCNTs was more pronounced in composites with co-continuous morphologies (50PP/50NR) compared to those with matrix-droplet (80PP/20NR) morphologies.
