Determining the spatial contributions of land use changes on the streamflow and sediment transport regimes: a case study of the Gorganroud watershed in Iran

Mohammad Masoud Mohammadpour Khoie et al.

Summary: This study examines the impacts of human activities and climate change on streamflow and sediment transport in the Gorganroud watershed in northern Iran. The results suggest that changes in land use have contributed more than 60% to the changes in streamflow and sediment regime, with the increase in orchard land use being the primary driver.

Estimation of Non-Stationary Behavior in Annual and Seasonal Surface Freshwater Volume Discharged into the Gorgan Bay, Iran

Monireh Kousali et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in surface freshwater runoff volume from the Ghareh-Sou River into the Gorgan Bay using the GAMLSS model. The study found that the dominant probability distribution function for the studied series was gamma, and both annual and seasonal series exhibited significant non-stationary behavior. There was an increasing difference between different quantiles of the surface freshwater volume series.

Comparative evaluation of spatio-temporal attributes of precipitation and streamflow in Buffalo and Tyume Catchments, Eastern Cape, South Africa

Solomon Temidayo Owolabi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of precipitation variability on streamflow in Tyume and Buffalo catchments using a hybrid statistical approach. The results revealed that the hydrological viability of Buffalo catchment is superior to the conservative attributes of Tyume catchment.

Bayesian joint-quantile regression

Yingying Hu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a Bayesian joint-quantile regression method that utilizes a linear approximation of quantile coefficients to borrow information across tail quantiles. A new Bayesian estimator for high quantiles is proposed, using a delayed rejection and adaptive Metropolis and Gibbs algorithm, which is demonstrated to be more stable and efficient than conventional methods through numerical studies.

Detecting precipitation trend using a multiscale approach based on quantile regression over a Mediterranean area

D. Treppiedi et al.

Summary: In recent years, Sicily has experienced a trend of increasing precipitation intensity, especially in sub-hourly events. The southern and eastern parts of the island are more affected by significant increasing rainfall trends, particularly at the 10-minute duration. The quantile regression method has shown stronger reliability in trend analysis detection compared to the Mann-Kendall test, mainly due to its ability to investigate the temporal variation of the tails of precipitation distribution.

Trend assessment of the watershed health based on DPSIR framework

Jamal Mosaffaie et al.

Summary: The study revealed that except for the S index, all other indices showed an ascending trend during the study period. The slopes of D, P, S, I, and R indices were 0.08, 0.05, -0.05, 0.02, and 0.04, respectively. This indicates that the health of the Gorganroud watershed is deteriorating over time due to socioeconomic activities and related pressures. Despite some practical measures as responses, they are inadequate and not integrated.
