A digital mobile health platform increasing efficiency and transparency towards universal health coverage in low- and middle-income countries

Liesbeth Huisman et al.

Summary: This paper discusses how leveraging mobile health platforms can address the challenges of achieving universal health coverage in low- and middle-income countries. By analyzing data collected from a mobile health platform, healthcare provider networks can be optimized, patient flows can be monitored, and the quality and accessibility of care can be assessed. Real-time data on health-seeking behavior, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, is emphasized as important. The use of mobile health platforms can provide valuable insights into improving access to and quality of care, and can unite funding for healthcare to reduce fragmentation.

A systematic scoping review found that major themes in the field of rehabilitation in low-resource settings include financial pressure, suboptimal healthcare service delivery, underdeveloped infrastructure, paucity of knowledge, research challenges, restricted social resources, geographical and environmental factors, human resource limitations, and the influence of beliefs and practices. These themes can help in understanding and promoting effective knowledge transfer in health-related research.
