Heterojunction of CuMn2O4/CeO2 nanocomposites for promoted photocatalytic H2 evolution under visible light

Khalid A. Alzahrani et al.

Summary: The researchers constructed CuMn2O4/CeO2 heterojunction nanocomposites using a facile sol-gel method and evaluated their photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance compared to pure CeO2 NPs under visible light. It was found that the H2 evolution rate of 15%CuMn2O4/CeO2 photocatalyst was five times higher than that of pure CeO2, attributed to its higher electron transport ability and electron-hole separation efficiency.

CuMn2O4/chitosan micro/nanocomposite: Green synthesis, methylene blue removal, and study of kinetic adsorption, adsorption isotherm experiments, mechanism and adsorbent capacity

Malihe Samadi Kazemi et al.

Summary: In this study, a pure phase of CuMn2O4 nanostructures were fabricated using a simple and environmentally friendly hydrothermal method with onion as a capping agent. CuMn2O4/chitosan micro/nanocomposite was then synthesized, and the structural analysis confirmed their purity. The prepared micro/nanocomposites exhibited high efficiency in adsorbing methylene blue. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to design and analyze the experiments, and optimal conditions for adsorption were determined. Kinetic adsorption and adsorption isotherm experiments were conducted to investigate the mechanism and capacity of the CuMn2O4/chitosan composites for methylene blue, and the results showed a favorable adsorption process. Additionally, the adsorbent could be effectively used for five adsorption/desorption cycles.

Fabrication of CuMn2O4/Co3O4 nanocomposite heterojunctions for efficacious visible light-induced degradation of antibiotics

Sumaya H. Almenia et al.

Summary: The synthesis and design of heterojunction nanocomposites with remarkable photocatalytic performance remain a challenge. In this work, CuMn2O4/Co3O4 nanocomposite heterojunctions were fabricated using a sol-gel strategy with soft template assistance. The CuMn2O4/Co3O4 nanocomposites exhibited significant enhancement in degradation efficiency and achieved 100% degradation of tetracycline within 75 min. The enhanced photocatalytic ability was attributed to the construction of heterojunction, synergistic effect between CuMn2O4 and Co3O4, enlarged surface area, strengthened effective charge mobility, and narrowed bandgap energy.

Summary: A novel inorganic-organic hybrid compound was prepared and characterized, showing a trinuclear terbium cluster connected by chelidamic acid units to form an equilateral triangle, with connections between triangle units through hydrogen bonding and anion-pi interactions. An investigation on the roles of the cation and ligand in the structure formation of such compounds was conducted, and it was found that anion-pi interactions play a significant role in the formation of 1D supramolecular assemblies in the solid state.
