Review of anticancer activity of monoterpenoids: Geraniol, nerol, geranial and neral

Gabriel dos Santos E. Silva et al.

Summary: In recent years, the potential anticancer agent geraniol, a monoterpenoid, has been extensively studied. Natural analogs such as nerol, geranial, and neral have also been investigated. The synergistic effects of these terpenes with clinically and non-clinically used compounds for treating different types of cancer have been explored. The promising activity of these compounds has also led to the development of new analogs. This review describes the anticancer potential of these compounds.

Synergistic effects of carvacrol, α-terpinene, γ-terpinene, ρ-cymene and linalool against Gardnerella species

Lucia G. Sousa et al.

Summary: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection in women worldwide. This study found that Thymbra capitata essential oils (EOs), specifically carvacrol and rho-cymene, have a strong synergistic antimicrobial effect against Gardnerella spp., the main bacteria causing BV. These EOs also effectively eliminate biofilm cells without cytotoxicity, highlighting their potential as alternative therapeutic options for BV treatment.

Comparison of headspace solid-phase microextraction high capacity fiber coatings based on dual mass spectrometric and broadband vacuum ultraviolet absorption detection for untargeted analysis of beer volatiles using gas chromatography

Delphine Zanella et al.

Summary: Despite using the same basic ingredients, beer styles exhibit significant variation, especially with the rise of craft brewing. A study using GC-MS/VUV to analyze 21 different beers found VUV detection to have similar performance as MS detection for untargeted analysis, and both VUV and MS detection effectively differentiated beer styles through principal component analysis. This research marks the first evaluation of VUV detection and comparison of simultaneous VUV and MS detection for untargeted classification of complex mixtures using GC.
