2D Janus Transition Metal Dichalcogenides: Properties and Applications

Xiao Tang et al.

Summary: The successful fabrication of Janus transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) monolayer has generated significant research interest in various fields. Janus TMDs inherit the advantages of conventional TMDs while also exhibiting novel properties. Breaking the vertical mirror symmetry leads to various novel properties, such as Rashba spin splitting, vertical piezoelectricity, and long exciton lifetime. Moreover, the intrinsic electric field originating from vertical asymmetry serves as a superior platform for tuning interlayer coupling in van der Waals structures.

Surface Valence State Effect of MoO2+x on Electrochemical Nitrogen Reduction

Jiaqi A. Wang et al.

Summary: The valence state of Mo plays a critical role in the performance of catalysts for ammonia synthesis and nitrogen reduction reaction. However, the dissolution of Mo as MoO42- in alkaline electrolytes has hindered the study of the valence effect of Mo in nanoparticle catalysts. In this study, a MoO2+x catalyst enriched with surface Mo6+ was developed, which showed enhanced ammonia yield and Faradaic efficiency compared to the MoO2 catalyst without Mo6+. The stability and speciation of Mo6+ in the catalyst were also analyzed.

On the Optimization of Nitrogen-Reduction Electrocatalysts: Breaking Scaling Relation or Catalytic Resonance Theory?

Kai S. Exner

Summary: This article compares the methods of breaking scaling relation and catalytic resonance in the context of electrocatalysts for nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) over transition-metal oxides. The findings suggest that fine-tuning the nitrogen-containing scaling relations can enhance the catalytic activity, while the success of catalytic resonance theory depends on the positive or negative scaling correlations.
