Theoretical Analysis of Exciton Wave Packet Dynamics in Polaritonic Wires

Gustavo J. R. Aroeira et al.

Summary: We conduct a comprehensive study on the evolution of exciton wavepacket in disordered but lossless polaritonic wires. Our simulations uncover the different types of exciton dynamics, including ballistic, diffusive, and subdiffusive behaviors, under strong light-matter coupling. We also determine the typical time scales associated with the transitions between these transport phenomena. Furthermore, we find that a considerable number of photon modes are required to accurately describe exciton propagation, and discuss the lack of dominance of the photon mode on resonance with matter.

Long-Range Energy Transfer in Strongly Coupled Donor-Acceptor Phototransistors

Pooja Bhatt et al.

Summary: Strong light-matter coupling enables tailored optoelectronic properties through long-range efficient energy transfer between donor and acceptor pairs via confined photon coupling. The cooperative, strong coupling of a donor (MoS2 monolayer) and an acceptor (BRK) leads to mixed polaritonic states, resulting in efficient energy transfer even when physically separated by 500 angstrom. These observations provide new avenues for utilizing the long-range interaction of polaritonic states in optoelectronic devices.

Simulating molecular polaritons in the collective regime using few-molecule models

Juan B. Perez-Sanchez et al.

Summary: The study presents a computational approach, known as collective dynamics using truncated equations (CUT-E), to explore the dynamics of molecular polaritons beyond simple quantum emitter ensemble models. The approach utilizes permutational symmetries to reduce computational cost and discovers an emergent hierarchy of timescales in these systems. Additionally, it systematically derives finite N corrections to the dynamics and demonstrates that the addition of a small number of effective molecules can account for phenomena with scaling rates. The results provide insight into the role of bright and dark states in chemical reactivity and offer a computationally efficient tool for polariton chemistry.

Enhanced Two-Dimensional Exciton Propagation via Strong Light-Matter Coupling with Surface Lattice Plasmons

Linrui Jin et al.

Summary: By integrating two-dimensional lead halide perovskites with plasmonic nanoparticle arrays, we have established an open and versatile exciton-polariton platform, where excitons hybridize with surface lattice resonances in the strong coupling regime. We directly observed enhanced exciton transport and demonstrated an improvement of exciton migration by more than one order of magnitude. We proposed a polariton-mediated exciton transport model and obtained an average polariton velocity of approximately 1 x 10^6 m/s for states with a photonic fraction of about 40%.

Ultrafast imaging of polariton propagation and interactions

Ding Xu et al.

Summary: Semiconductor excitations can form exciton-polaritons with light-like energy flow and matter-like interactions. By using nonlinear momentum-resolved optical approach, the authors directly image the exciton-polaritons in real space on femtosecond scales. It is found that exciton-phonon interactions result in a renormalization of exciton-polariton velocities, but ballistic transport can be maintained for half-exciton polaritons. Upon increasing the excitonic character, rapid decoherence leads to diffusive transport.

Summary: This study resolves the controversy regarding the propagation mechanism of polaritons by conducting molecular dynamics simulations of Rhodamine molecules in a Fabry-Perot cavity. The results indicate that polariton propagation is limited by the cavity lifetime and appears diffusive due to reversible population transfers between polaritonic states.

Tuning the Coherent Propagation of Organic Exciton-Polaritons through the Cavity Q-factor

Ruth H. Tichauer et al.

Summary: Transport of excitons in organic materials can be enhanced through polariton formation when the interaction strength between these excitons and the confined light modes of an optical resonator exceeds their decay rates. The polariton propagation velocity is influenced by the Q-factor of the optical resonator and the polariton dispersion. By controlling the lifetime of bright states, which is determined by the Q-factor, the propagation of polaritons in organic microcavities can be effectively tuned.

Theoretical Challenges in Polaritonic Chemistry

Jacopo Fregoni et al.

Summary: Polaritonic chemistry exploits strong light-matter coupling between molecules and confined electromagnetic field modes to enable new chemical reactivities. Different scales of optical cavities and plasmonic subwavelength nanocavities determine the collective effects and strong coupling of light-matter interaction. A multiscale theoretical toolbox is necessary to study the rich phenomenology of polaritonic chemistry. Each component of the system needs to be treated in detail for reliable results.

Energy cascades in donor-acceptor exciton-polaritons observed by ultrafast two-dimensional white-light spectroscopy

Minjung Son et al.

Summary: This study investigates the photophysical mechanism of polariton-assisted long-range energy transfer in carbon nanotubes using two-dimensional white-light spectroscopy and quantum calculations. The results reveal that energy cascades down a manifold of new electronic states created by intermolecular coupling and the two distinct bandgaps of the donor and acceptor, leading to long-range energy transfer. The findings expand the understanding of energy transfer dynamics in exciton-polariton systems and highlight the beneficial role of moderately-coupled cavities in long-range energy transfer.

Wavelike electronic energy transfer in donor-acceptor molecular systems through quantum coherence

Summary: This study demonstrates a transition from incoherent to coherent electronic energy transfer in donor-acceptor model systems by precisely controlling the separations. Through scanning tunnelling microscopy induced luminescence, two new emission peaks were observed with decreasing intermolecular distance. The spatially resolved spectroscopic images of the redshifted emission reveal a delocalized nature of the excitonic state over the whole heterodimer, suggesting a coherent wave-like transfer of the excitons.

Controlling Exciton Propagation in Organic Crystals through Strong Coupling to Plasmonic Nanoparticle Arrays

Anton Matthijs Berghuis et al.

Summary: In this study, the limitations of incoherent exciton transport in organic materials were overcome by strongly coupling localized singlet excitations with confined light modes. The resulting exciton-polaritons exhibited significantly longer propagation lengths compared to singlet exciton diffusion. The anisotropy of exciton flow in organic crystals was also found to be modulated by the dipole moment of the exciton transition. These findings are important for the development of high-performance organic devices with lower recombination losses.

Population of Exciton-Polaritons via Luminescent sp3 Defects in Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Jan M. Luettgens et al.

Summary: Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are ideal for strong-light matter coupling due to their stable excitons, narrow emission, and high charge carrier mobilities. By controlling the introduction of luminescent quantum defects, SWCNTs have become quantum light sources capable of single-photon emission. Radiative pumping is identified as the predominant mechanism for populating SWCNT exciton-polaritons in planar microcavities, leading to increased polariton population. The controlled functionalization of SWCNTs with luminescent defects presents a promising route towards bright and efficient polariton devices.

Effect of molecular Stokes shift on polariton dynamics

E. Hulkko et al.

Summary: The interaction between the enhanced electromagnetic field of a confined light mode and photoactive molecules can lead to the formation of new hybrid light-matter states known as polaritons. These polaritons, as evidenced by the Rabi split in the dispersion, have the potential to control the chemistry of the coupled molecules. Experimental and molecular dynamics simulation results indicate that the molecular Stokes shift plays a significant role in the relaxation of polaritons formed by organic molecules within metallic Fabry-Perot cavities embedded in a polymer matrix. Moreover, it was observed that the mechanism of energy transfer from the fluorescing state of a non-strongly coupled molecule to the lower polariton involves non-adiabatic couplings between uncoupled molecules and the polaritons.
