3D flower-like perylenetetracarboxylic-Zn(II) superstructures/Bi2WO6 step-scheme heterojunctions with enhanced visible light photocatalytic performance

Fei Liu et al.

Summary: The study synthesized flower-like perylenetetracarboxylic-Zn(II) superstructures with Zn2+ ions and constructed a step-scheme heterojunction with Bi2WO6. This heterojunction significantly improved the photocatalytic efficiency for tetracycline degradation compared with pure Zn-PTC and Bi2WO6. The step-scheme charge transfer pathway effectively inhibited the recombination of photo-generated charges and utilized the different oxidation and reduction abilities of Zn-PTC and Bi2WO6.

Self-Assembled Liposomes Enhance Electron Transfer for Efficient Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

Santiago Rodriguez-Jimenez et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of self-assembled amphiphilic photosensitizers and catalysts in lipid membranes for photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Membrane-anchored alkylated cobalt porphyrin shows higher catalytic activity and selectivity compared to its water-soluble counterpart. Self-assembly increases the charge separation state lifetime and enhances the electron transfer to the catalyst.

Electrically Induced Mixed Valence Increases the Conductivity of Copper Helical Metallopolymers

Jake L. Greenfield et al.

Summary: In this study, resistive switching within molecular wires made of double-helical metallopolymers, constructed by self-assembly, is demonstrated using a bottom-up approach. The oxidation of copper atoms from Cu-I to Cu-II is found to increase conductivity by 10(4)-fold, lasting for years due to the structural rearrangement of the double helix. This work establishes helical metallopolymers as a new platform for controlling currents at the nanoscale.

Excitation of Radical Anions of Naphthalene Diimides in Consecutive- and Electro-Photocatalysis

Sofia Caby et al.

Summary: Both photochemical and electrochemical transformations offer opportunities for environmentally friendly methodologies, with potential for improvement if combined. The research compared pure photochemical and electro-photochemical transformations, identifying a system with potential applications in both approaches and recognizing the excitation of radical anion as a key event. Despite similar yields and reaction rates, differences exist in terms of setup simplicity, catalyst solubility tolerance, selectivity, and optimization possibilities between the two methods.
