Allosteric activation of preformed EGF receptor dimers by a single ligand binding event

Endang R. Purba et al.

Summary: This study found that the full-length EGFR adopts a homodimeric form in vitro before and after ligand binding. Cryo-electron tomography analysis revealed the stabilization of the extracellular domains of the receptor dimer by ligand binding. Our findings shed light on how oncogenic mutations spontaneously activate EGFR and provide insights for the development of novel cancer therapies.

Allelic variants of full-length VAR2CSA, the placental malaria vaccine candidate, differ in antigenicity and receptor binding affinity

Jonathan P. Renn et al.

Summary: The study compares the antigenicity and receptor binding affinity of different allelic variants of the potential placental malaria vaccine candidate VAR2CSA in blood samples from pregnant women. The data suggest that inter-allelic differences may impact clinical presentation heterogeneity and have implications for vaccine design.
