Multiscale Modeling as a Tool for the Prediction of Catalytic Performances: The Case of n-Heptane Hydroconversion in a Large-Pore Zeolite

Jean-Marc Schweitzer et al.

Summary: In this study, a predictive multiscale single-event microkinetic model based on density functional theory (DFT) calculation was developed for the hydroconversion of n-heptane in large-pore zeolites. The model was validated by experimental kinetic data and showed satisfactory agreement. The results provide important insights into the catalytic performance of large-pore zeolites in alkane hydroconversion.

Synthesis of Difluoroglycine Derivatives from Amines, Difluorocarbene, and CO2: Computational Design, Scope, and Applications

Hiroki Hayashi et al.

Summary: A three-component reaction for the synthesis of difluoroglycine derivatives was achieved by using amines, in situ generated difluorocarbene, and inexpensive CO2 as the C-1 source. Computational analysis provided detailed reaction profiles of the 3CR, revealing the unsuitability of simple ammonia for this reaction. A new reagent capable of generating difluorocarbene at 0 degrees C without any additives was discovered. Additionally, radical substitution reactions and synthetic applications as an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand were demonstrated for the obtained difluoroglycine derivatives under photoredox conditions.

Confinement effects and acid strength in zeolites

Emanuele Grifoni et al.

Summary: The study investigates the gradual transition of BrOnsted acid sites in different pore size zeolites to hydronium ions using ab initio molecular dynamics and enhanced sampling techniques. It is found that the concentration of water molecules significantly affects the standard free energy of formed complexes, while entropy increases linearly with water concentration in pores, favoring proton solvation.

Bjarne Kreitz et al.

Summary: Automatic mechanism generation was used to determine the CO2 hydrogenation mechanisms on Ni(111) surface, considering the uncertainty in parameters through two-stage process. Global uncertainty assessment, global sensitivity analysis, and degree of rate control analysis were performed to study the impact of parametric uncertainty on microkinetic model predictions. The study found a feasible set of microkinetic mechanisms within the correlated uncertainty space, providing tools to determine key factors controlling methanation activity.
