Effect of magnetic scattering on the superfluid transition of 3He in nematic aerogel

V. V. Dmitriev et al.

Summary: In this study, high magnetic field experiments were conducted on pure 3He in nematic aerogel. The results showed that instead of the polar phase, the A phase emerged in the nematic aerogel at low magnetic fields. The superfluid transition temperature of 3He in aerogel was found to increase non-linearly with applied magnetic field, with a suppressive effect compared to the bulk A1 phase, which was attributed to the influence of the magnetic scattering channel.

Supercurrent-Induced Weyl Superconductivity

Shuntaro Sumita et al.

Summary: We demonstrate that Weyl superconductivity can be induced by finite supercurrent in noncentrosymmetric spin-orbit coupled superconductors with line nodes. By introducing a three-dimensional tight-binding model, it is revealed that a spectral transition from line-nodal to point-nodal occurs when applying an infinitesimal supercurrent. We further clarify that the higher-order effect in spin-orbit coupling plays a crucial role in this phenomenon.

High critical current density and high-tolerance superconductivity in high-entropy alloy thin films

Soon-Gil Jung et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloy (HEA) superconductors have the potential to be utilized stably under extreme conditions due to their high mechanical hardness and excellent irradiation tolerance. This study successfully fabricated high-quality Ta-Nb-Hf-Zr-Ti HEA superconducting thin films with a large critical current density (J(c)) and resistance to radiation damage. These results demonstrate the considerable potential of HEA superconductors for use in extreme conditions.

Multifractally-Enhanced Superconductivity in Two-Dimensional Systems with Spin-Orbit Coupling

E. S. Andriyakhina et al.

Summary: This study investigates the multifractally enhanced superconducting states in two-dimensional systems with the interplay of Anderson localization and electron-electron interactions in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. The energy dependence of the superconducting spectral gap is found to be induced by multifractal correlations. The superconducting transition temperature and spectral gap are determined for different coupling cases. Mesoscopic fluctuations of the local density of states in the superconducting state are also studied, and it is found that spin-orbit coupling reduces the amplitude of fluctuations.

Sensitivity of superconducting states to the impurity location in layered materials

Bastian Zinkl et al.

Summary: A study on the family of multilayered superconductors derived from doped topological insulators in the family of Bi2Se3 found that they are unusually robust against nonmagnetic disorder. The effects of four different types of impurities on the superconducting critical temperature were investigated and it was discovered that different components of the scattering potential are active depending on the impurity configuration and choice of orbitals. For Bi2Se3-based superconductors, only the symmetric share of impurity configurations contribute to scattering and polar impurities are completely inactive. A dominant mass-imbalance term in the normal-state Hamiltonian can also increase the robustness of the superconducting state against intercalated impurities.

Using Disorder to Identify Bogoliubov Fermi-Surface States

Hanbit Oh et al.

Summary: This study argues that a superconducting state with a Bogoliubov Fermi surface can be identified by the dependence of physical quantities on disorder, particularly showcasing the distinguishing linear dependence of residual density of states at weak disorder. The stability of supercurrent against impurities and characteristic Drude-like behavior of optical conductivity were also demonstrated. These findings have direct applications in electron irradiation experiments on candidate materials for Bogoliubov Fermi surfaces.

Electric field-tunable superconductivity in alternating-twist magic-angle trilayer graphene

Zeyu Hao et al.

Summary: By constructing a van der Waals heterostructure with three stacked graphene layers at alternating twist angles, researchers observed tunable superconductivity at a specific twist angle. The superconducting regions are associated with flavor polarization of moire bands and are bounded by a van Hove singularity at high displacement fields, indicating unconventional moire superconductivity.

Fragility of surface states in topological superfluid 3He

P. J. Heikkinen et al.

Summary: The research on surface Andreev bound states in superfluid He-3 demonstrates that they are fragile with respect to the details of surface scattering, unlike the robust surface/edge states in topological insulators and quantum Hall systems. The unexpectedly large suppression of T-c due to surface magnetic scattering leads to an increased density of low energy bound states.

Half-quantum vortices in nematic and chiral phases of 3He

Robert C. Regan et al.

Summary: Theoretical results on the stability of half-quantum vortices (HQVs) in highly anisotropic Nafen aerogel-confined He-3 superfluid phases are reported. Two superfluid phases, a nematic superfluid and a chiral superfluid, are identified in He-3-Nafen, both hosting arrays of HQVs as stable states. These HQVs have distinct magnetic and topological signatures in the nematic and chiral phases of He-3-Nafen.

Global phase diagram of disordered higher-order Weyl semimetals

Zhi-Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the disorder-induced phase transition of higher-order Weyl semimetals (HOWSMs) and confirms the robustness of Weyl nodes for HOWSMs. Unique topological properties of HOWSMs exhibit different behaviors under weak disorder, with quantized quadrupole moment and hinge states showing fragility and moderate stability, respectively. This research deepens the understanding of the topological nature of HOWSM and opens up possible pathways for experimental characterization.

Summary: The study reveals that the interplay of the spin-orbital structure of the normal-state Hamiltonian, disorder scattering, and superconducting pairing potentials can affect the robustness of superconductivity significantly. Unconventional s-wave states play a key role in this context.

Chiral superfluid phase of liquid 3He in planar aerogels

Tomohiro Hisamitsu et al.

Summary: The equilibrium properties of the chiral superfluid phase of liquid He-3 stabilized in planar aerogels suffering from impurity scatterings due to planar correlated defects are examined, showing an extended region of the chiral A phase in the presence of planar anisotropy. The vortex lattice structure in the chiral A phase may include vortex loops and exhibits broken time-reversal symmetry due to the presence of chiral domains induced by randomness.
