Phosphine-Stabilized Germasilenylidene: Source for a Silicon-Atom Transfer

Summary: A phosphine-stabilized germasilenylidene was synthesized via SiCl4 oxidative addition at a germylene-phosphine Lewis pair. The molecule exhibited a Ge=Si: motif and showed high reactivity, resulting in the formation of a Si2Ge2-ring molecule.

Conformationally Switchable Silylone: Electron Redistribution Accompanied by Ligand Reorientation around a Monatomic Silicon

Summary: This study reports a silicon(0) complex that can exhibit a reversible switch between pi-localized and pi-delocalized ylidene structures in the solid state and solution. The difference in physical properties between the two isomers is attributed to the balanced steric demand and redox noninnocent character of the CAASi ligand, altered by the orientation of the terminal ligands with respect to the Si-Si-Si plane.

Entering new chemical space with isolable complexes of single, zero-valent silicon and germanium atoms

Summary: Monatomic zero-valent silicon and germanium complexes, stabilized by neutral donating ligands, have emerged as a new class of low-valent group 14 element compounds, featuring four valence electrons in the form of two lone pairs at a single site. These species are capable of transferring single Si and Ge atoms and acting as building blocks for novel group 14 species. The characteristic behavior of these compounds includes coordination to Lewis acids, oxidation with elemental chalcogens, and bond activation of common organic substrates and inert small molecules.
