Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and the influence of inflammation & nbsp;

Michiel Algoet et al.

Summary: Acute myocardial infarction is caused by sudden coronary artery occlusion, leading to ischemia and myocardial necrosis. Although revascularization/reperfusion is possible, it paradoxically triggers ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, driven by inflammation. This review discusses the mechanisms of I/R injury, altered inflammation, and potential therapeutic strategies, suggesting that a dual approach targeting comorbidities and systemic inflammation may be beneficial.

Epigenetic Reader Bromodomain Containing Protein 2 Facilitates Pathological Cardiac Hypertrophy via Regulating the Expression of Citrate Cycle Genes

Zhirong Lin et al.

Summary: The present study identified BRD2 as a novel regulator in cardiac hypertrophy, and revealed that it could facilitate cardiac hypertrophy through upregulating TCA cycle genes. Inhibition of BRD2 reversed pathological cardiac hypertrophy, cardiac fibrosis, and cardiac function dysregulation. These findings highlight the potential therapeutic role of targeting BRD2 in pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

An Overview of the Molecular Mechanisms Associated with Myocardial Ischemic Injury: State of the Art and Translational Perspectives

Leonardo Schirone et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in western countries, with myocardial infarction representing a life-threatening condition that leads to heart failure. Efforts have been made to study the molecular mechanisms of ischemia/reperfusion injury and cardiac remodeling. This review article discusses the latest evidence on the molecular basis of myocardial ischemic injury and potential therapeutic interventions for cardioprotection and cardiac remodeling attenuation.

Molecular Mechanisms of Ferroptosis and Relevance to Cardiovascular Disease

Lai-Hua Xie et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is a regulated non-apoptotic cell death characterized by iron-dependence and the accumulation of lipid peroxidation. Excessive iron promotes the generation of soluble and lipid ROS through an iron-dependent Fenton reaction and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzyme activity, inducing ferroptosis. Cytosolic glutathione peroxidase 4 (cGPX4) and mitochondrial glutathione peroxidase 4 (mGPX4) serve as defense systems to detoxify lipid peroxidation in the cytoplasmic and mitochondrial membrane, respectively, defending against ferroptosis under normal conditions.

Length of Stay and Short-Term Outcomes in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction After Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: Insights from the China Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry

Junxing Lv et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of length of stay (LOS) on short-term outcomes for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) in China. While a longer LOS was associated with older age, lower-level hospitals, and higher costs, it did not significantly affect 30-day major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) or readmission. However, patients with longer LOS demonstrated better medication adherence, indicating the need for improved management during the transition from hospital to community care.

Bromodomain-containing protein 7 contributes to myocardial infarction-induced myocardial injury through activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling

Xiaosa Chi et al.

Summary: BRD7 plays a crucial role in myocardial infarction by activating the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway to promote myocardial injury; silencing BRD7 can reduce cardiomyocyte apoptosis and restore cardiac function; targeting BRD7 may be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating myocardial infarction-induced myocardial injury.
