Studies on characterization of properties of low-grade hematite iron ores and their fired pellets

Avula Leela Sukh Brahma Reddy et al.

Summary: Iron ore pellets were made from Ramallakota and Veldurthi mines, Andhra Pradesh, with 1.5 to 4.5 wt.% of bentonite and molasses binders. The firing of dried pellets at different temperatures and times resulted in increased drop number, crushing strength, and decreased apparent porosity. The study provides insights into the effects of iron ore type, binder, and firing conditions on the properties of the resulting pellets, as revealed by chemical compositions, XRD patterns, and SEM micrographs.

Hydrogen reduction of low-grade banded iron ore

Nikhil Dhawan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hydrogen reduction of low-grade iron ore to improve its metallization degree. The temperature and time were found to have significant effects on the reduction rate, while the flow rate and particle size had minimal effects. The optimal conditions for high saturation magnetization and reduction rate were found to be a temperature of 600 degrees C, a time of 60 minutes, a hydrogen flow rate of 0.5 LPM, and a particle size of 3.3 x 2 mm.

Effect of basicity on the activation energy during reduction of highly fluxed iron ore pellets

Raj Kumar Dishwar et al.

Summary: The reduction behavior of high flux hardened iron ore pellets of different basicity levels was studied at different temperatures, with the best-fit kinetic model and activation energy calculated. It was found that pellets with higher basicity levels had lower activation energies after reduction in a coal bed, making them suitable for steelmaking in Electric arc furnace/Linz-Donawitz Converter.
