Resistant potato starch supplementation reduces serum histamine levels in healthy adults with links to attenuated intestinal permeability

Microbiome-metabolomics analysis insight into the effects of dietary resistant starch on intestinal integrity

Summary: In this study, the impact of resistant starch (RS) on meat duck intestine and its resident microbiota was investigated. The results showed that dietary RS improved intestinal morphology and barrier function in meat ducks, as evidenced by enhanced expression of tight junction proteins and Mucin-2 gene. RS administration also led to changes in the gut microbiome and metabolome, with increased proportions of Firmicutes and butyrate-producing bacteria, as well as alterations in amino acid and lipid metabolism. These findings provide valuable insights into the mechanism by which RS improves the gut system of ducks.

Summary: Diamine oxidase (DAO) deficiency is an underlying cause of histamine intolerance. It can originate from genetic, pharmacological, or pathological factors, and may also be linked to alterations in the gut microbiota. A study found dysbiosis of the gut microbiota in patients with histamine intolerance, with lower levels of certain bacteria related to gut health and higher levels of histamine-secreting bacteria. This imbalance could lead to the accumulation of histamine in the gut and subsequent adverse effects.
