Characterization of Elementary Industrial Hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.) Fiber and Its Fabric

Anurag Jasti et al.

Summary: In recent years, natural fibers have replaced man-made fibers as the reinforcement in polymer composites. Hemp fiber, with its biodegradability, abundance, high fiber production, rapid growth rate, and high strength-to-weight ratio, is suitable as the reinforcement in polymer composites. This study investigates the physical and mechanical properties of industrial hemp fiber and its fabric, including thermal stability, crystallinity, elemental analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The study shows that hemp fiber has high crystallinity, high tensile modulus, and comparable breaking force to some synthetic fibers, making it a suitable alternative for reinforcing materials in polymer composites.

Natural Cellulose from Ziziphus jujuba Fibers: Extraction and Characterization

Aicha Amior et al.

Summary: Due to their natural availability, renewability, biodegradability, nontoxicity, light weight, and relatively low cost, natural fibers, especially lignocellulosic fibers, are attractive potential substitutes for non-eco-friendly synthetic fibers. In this study, Ziziphus jujuba fibers with low lignin content were used as an alternative renewable resource for the production of cellulosic fibers with suitable characteristics and minimal energy consumption. The efficient removal of noncellulosic compounds resulted in an increase in crystallinity index and higher surface area of the fibers, making Ziziphus jujuba fibers a suitable sustainable source for the production of cellulosic fibers.

Identification of the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Moroccan Sisal Yarns Used as Reinforcements for Composite Materials

Zineb Samouh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the physical and mechanical properties of sisal fiber and yarn of Moroccan origin, revealing low thermal stability of the sisal fiber and the influence of impregnated yarn porosity and twist angle on its elastic modulus. The results suggest an interesting potential for the use of Moroccan sisal fiber in the development of bio-sourced composite materials.
