Pregnancy in women living with perinatally acquired HIV: Perinatal outcomes and drug resistance profile

Gilmar de Souza Osmundo Jr et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to analyze the perinatal outcomes of Perinatally acquired HIV Infection (PHIV) in pregnant women. The study included singleton pregnancies in Women Living with HIV (WLH) between 2006 and 2019. The results showed that PHIV did not increase the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. Rating: 9/10.

Perinatal outcomes in women living with HIV-1 and receiving antiretroviral therapy-a systematic review and meta-analysis

Shiri Shinar et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found that pregnant women living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy have an increased risk of preterm birth, low birthweight, and small-for-gestational age in high resource countries compared with HIV-negative controls. The risk of preterm birth and low birthweight is also higher in low income countries for these women.

Higher prevalence of stunting and poor growth outcomes in HIV-exposed uninfected than HIV-unexposed infants in Kenya

Jillian Neary et al.

Summary: Despite high maternal ART coverage, HEU infants had poorer growth outcomes compared to HUU infants in this large population-level study. Optimizing breastfeeding practices may be beneficial for improving growth outcomes in HEU infants.

Growth patterns of infants with in- utero HIV and ARV exposure in Cape Town, South Africa and Lusaka, Zambia

Dorothy C. Nyemba et al.

Summary: Infants born HIV-exposed yet remain uninfected (HEU) are at increased risk of poorer growth and health compared to infants born HIV-unexposed (HU). The effects of maternal antiretroviral treatment (ART) on the growth of HEU infants are not well understood. Differences in risks between high burden HIV settings have not been extensively explored.

Estimated blood pressure trajectories and hypertension patterns among pregnant women living with HIV, Haiti, 2007-2017

Olga Tymejczyk et al.

Summary: Hypertension in pregnancy is becoming more prevalent among Haitian women, especially among those participating in the PMTCT program. The study found that hypertension rates increased over time and were associated with more recent program entry. Screening and management of high blood pressure should be prioritized in this population.

Association of maternal obesity with preterm birth phenotype and mediation effects of gestational diabetes mellitus and preeclampsia: a prospective cohort study

Kan Liu et al.

Summary: The association between maternal obesity and preterm birth was investigated in this study. It was found that maternal obesity was associated with all phenotypes of preterm birth, with the highest risks observed for extremely preterm birth and medically indicated preterm birth. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and preeclampsia (PE) were shown to partially mediate the relationship between obesity and preterm birth.

PRISMA2020: An R package and Shiny app for producing PRISMA 2020-compliant flow diagrams, with interactivity for optimised digital transparency and Open Synthesis

Neal R. Haddaway et al.

Summary: We have developed a user-friendly tool for producing PRISMA 2020-compliant flow diagrams for users with coding experience and, importantly, for users without prior experience in coding by making use of Shiny. This free-to-use tool will make it easier to produce clear and PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review flow diagrams. Significantly, users can also produce interactive flow diagrams for the first time, allowing readers of their reviews to smoothly and swiftly explore and navigate to further details of the methods and results of a review.

Maternal and infant renal safety following tenofovir disoproxil fumarate exposure during pregnancy in a randomized control trial

Kristin Baltrusaitis et al.

Summary: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) combined with other antiretroviral drugs is commonly used for HIV treatment, but its renal safety during pregnancy is still not well understood. This study evaluated the renal function and calcium-phosphate levels in pregnant women receiving TDF, and found no significant safety concerns for maternal or infant renal function.

Burden, clinical presentation and risk factors of advanced HIV disease in pregnant Mozambican women

Tacilta Nhampossa et al.

Summary: This study provides important information on the prevalence and clinical presentation of advanced HIV disease (AHD) in pregnant women in Mozambique and its impact on maternal and perinatal outcomes. The findings highlight the need for prompt HIV diagnosis and effective management to reduce the burden of AHD and improve maternal and child survival.

Obesity in pregnant women: a 20-year analysis of the German experience

Alexander Strauss et al.

Summary: The longitudinal study in Germany over more than two decades revealed a significant increase in maternal body weight and BMI, with obesity having a major impact on obstetric health issues. Apart from maternal age, parity was identified as a contributing factor to the continuous increase in maternal weight. The implications of obesity on pregnancy and delivery risks, as well as the lifelong burden on both mother and offspring, emphasize the importance of implementing multimodal strategies to reduce/control periconceptional body weight.

Summary: Pregnant women living with HIV who develop non-communicable diseases (NCDs) may face complications during pregnancy, postpartum, and potential long-term impacts on women's health. Countries with high HIV burdens also have high rates of NCD-related pregnancy complications, highlighting the importance of further research and interventions to reduce risks and complications.
