Nationwide genomic surveillance reveals the prevalence and evolution of honeybee viruses in China

Nannan Li et al.

Summary: Through meta-transcriptomic sequencing of nearly 2000 samples collected across China, researchers have revealed the diversity and prevalence of honeybee viruses, as well as the existence of novel genetic variants associated with China. The study highlights the widespread distribution and genetic diversity of honeybee viruses, suggesting the importance of understanding and mitigating viral infectious diseases in honeybees.

Sirawit Jirawannaporn et al.

Summary: This study developed and validated an RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a-based diagnostic platform for detecting pathogenic Leptospira. The platform showed high sensitivity and excellent specificity for the lipL32 gene of the pathogen, and could be a suitable test for screening acute leptospirosis in limited-resource settings.

Real-time reverse transcription recombinase polymerase amplification for rapid detection of murine hepatitis virus

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed a real-time reverse transcription recombinase polymerase amplification (RTRPA) method for rapid detection of murine hepatitis virus (MHV) in laboratory mice. The newly developed RT-RPA assay showed a significant advantage in time-saving compared to the standard RT-qPCR method. Both methods demonstrated the same limit of detection and good specificity. The results indicated that the RT-RPA assay could be an alternative method for MHV detection.

A novel rapid visual detection assay for Toxoplasma gondii combining recombinase-aided amplification and lateral flow dipstick coupled with CRISPR-Cas13a fluorescence (RAA-Cas13a-LFD)

Jinhong Zhao et al.

Summary: This study developed a new method for rapid visual detection of Toxoplasma gondii infection using recombinase-aided amplification (RAA) and lateral flow dipstick (LFD) coupled with CRISPR-Cas13a fluorescence. The method is not only rapid, sensitive, and specific, but also allows direct visualization by the naked eye, eliminating the need for sophisticated and costly equipment. It can be applied to on-site surveillance of T. gondii.

Chemical Stimulants and Stressors Impact the Outcome of Virus Infection and Immune Gene Expression in Honey Bees (Apis mellifera)

Fenali Parekh et al.

Summary: The study found that adding thyme oil to sucrose syrup reduced virus abundance in honey bees, while increasing the expression of key RNAi genes and antimicrobial peptide genes. Conversely, fumagillin and clothianidin increased virus infection rates and lowered expression of important immune genes, indicating negative impacts on honey bee health.

Mutation Rates, Mutation Frequencies, and Proofreading-Repair Activities in RNA Virus Genetics

Esteban Domingo et al.

Summary: The error rate during template copying for viral RNA progeny production is a biologically relevant parameter for virus replication complexes, with implications for virus-host interactions and virus diversification. Mutation rates for RNA viruses range from 10(-3) to 10(-6) copying errors per nucleotide incorporated into the new RNA product. Some viruses possess error correction mechanisms, like the proofreading-repair 3' to 5' exonuclease in coronaviruses, to decrease error rates during replication and maintain genetic stability.
