Isolation and Characterization of a Novel Autographiviridae Phage and Its Combined Effect with Tigecycline in Controlling Multidrug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii-Associated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections

Phitchayapak Wintachai et al.

Summary: This study successfully isolated a broad-spectrum lytic Acinetobacter phage and found its potential for targeted treatment of SSTIs. The study also demonstrated that the combination of this phage with tigecycline could effectively eliminate Acinetobacter baumannii.

Investigation of Serotype Prevalence of Escherichia coli Strains Isolated from Layer Poultry in Greece and Interactions with Other Infectious Agents

Dimitrios Koutsianos et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence and characterization of O-serogroups in E. coli strains isolated from poultry in Greece. The results revealed that O78, O111, and O2 serogroups were frequently associated with colibacillosis lesions and increased mortality, while O2, O88, and O8 serogroups were more commonly found in birds with colibacillosis lesions but normal mortality rates. Additionally, there was no statistically significant effect of the tested infectious agents on E. coli infection mortality.

New strategies to prevent and control avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC)

Henrik Christensen et al.

Summary: This review presents the risks associated with APEC and highlights the new strategy for controlling APEC, including limiting vertical transmission, using all-in-all-out production systems, and implementing biosecurity measures. Vaccination and competitive exclusion are important tools, while culling strategies can reduce antibiotic-resistant APEC. Strategies to reduce APEC, including antibiotic-resistant APEC, need to be implemented in the whole production pyramid, starting at the very top.

Genomic Analysis of a Novel Phage Infecting the Turkey Pathogen Escherichia coli APEC O78 and Its Endolysin Activity

Sangsang Deng et al.

Summary: Phage therapy is considered a promising method for addressing multidrug-resistant bacteria, and a newly characterized Myoviridae phage, vB_EcoM_APEC, was able to infect MDR E. coli strains as well as other related bacteria. Genome analysis revealed that vB_EcoM_APEC is a novel phage with low similarity to other available phage genomes.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
