The goblin spider genus Hexapopha has been revised, including the re-diagnosis of four species from Costa Rica and the re-description of two species transferred from another genus. Additionally, 35 new species have been described from South America, bringing the total number of species to 41. Brazil has the highest species richness, with 33 species described, including the first description of the male of H. brasiliana. Hexapopha species are restricted to the Neotropical region, from Costa Rica to Northern Argentina.
The goblin spider genus Hexapopha Platnick, Berniker & Viquez, 2014 is revised. The four Costa Rican species recognized in the original description of the genus are re-diagnosed: H. reimoseri (Fage, 1938) (the type species), H. hone Platnick, Berniker & Viquez, 2014, H. osa Platnick, Berniker & Viquez, 2014 and H. jimenez Platnick, Berniker & Viquez, 2014. Two species recently transferred from Gamasomorpha Karsch, 1881 are redescribed: H. brasiliana (Bristowe, 1938), from southern Brazil, of which the male is described for the first time, and H. m-scripta (Biraben, 1954), from Argentina. Thirty-five new species are described from South America, elevating the total number of species to forty-one. Thirty three species are described from Brazil: H. una (d', 9), H. brescoviti (d'), H. peba (d',9), H. harveyi (d',9), H. fannesi (d'), H. erebai (d'), H. periclitata (d',9), H. delta (d'), H. tallitae (d',9), H. platnicki (d',9), H. santosi (d',9), H. rheimsae (d'), H. wangi (d',9), H. ruizi (d'), H. itabaiana (d'), H. ramirezi (d'), H. depleta (d'), H. gunma (d'), H. corniculata (d',9), H. egua (d'), H. izquierdoi (d',9), H. numerosa (d',9), H. baehrae (d',9), H. excavata (d',9), H. ubicki (d',9), H. quadraginta (d',9), H. ilhoa (d',9), H. marajoara (d',9), H. kropfi (d',9), H. caboquinho (d'), H. grismadoi (d'), H. manauara (d',9) and H. pantaneira (d',9). Two additional new species, H. pithecia (d',9) from Peru and H. sorkini (d',9) from Venezuela are also described. Species of Hexapopha are restricted to the Neotropical region, from Costa Rica to Northern Argentina. Brazil, where 85% of the species occur, harbors the highest species richness. A key and distribution maps are provided for all species.
