Exceptional Photocatalytic Performance of the LaFeO3/g-C3N4 Z-Scheme Heterojunction for Water Splitting and Organic Dyes Degradation

Summary: Scientists have developed an artificial Z-scheme system to simulate natural photosynthesis, which can split water into hydrogen and oxygen using two different semiconductors. They aim to improve the performance of Z-scheme systems by enhancing light absorption, developing stable redox couples, and finding new cocatalysts. In this study, LaFeO3/g-C3N4 was synthesized and utilized as a Z-scheme system for water reduction and organic dye degradation under visible light irradiation. The resulting photocatalyst exhibited exceptional activity for hydrogen production and dye degradation, attributed to enhanced charge carrier separation and improved light absorption. The development of this highly effective Z-scheme heterostructure photocatalyst will contribute to the sustainable development of Z-scheme systems for addressing energy and environmental crises.

Biomimetic Electrochemical Sensors Based on Core-Shell Imprinted Polymers for Targeted Sunset Yellow Estimation in Environmental Samples

Summary: This study aimed to design a novel electrochemical sensor incorporating magnetite-based molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs). The SEM analysis revealed that MMIPs had a diameter of 57 nm and an irregular shape. XRD patterns showed both crystallinity and amorphous peaks. The crystallite size of MMIPs was determined to be 16.28 nm. FTIR bands confirmed the synthesis of MMIPs using specific monomers. The magneto-sensors exhibited high adsorption efficiency, selectivity, reusability, and strong structural stability, making them suitable for the detection of SY dye in real samples.

Superparamagnetic Zinc Ferrite Nanoparticles as Visible-Light Active Photocatalyst for Efficient Degradation of Selected Textile Dye in Water

Summary: Photocatalysis using superparamagnetic zinc ferrite nanoparticles (ZnFe2O4) was found to be a promising technology for the degradation of recalcitrant organic pollutants, such as textile dye RBV-5R, in water. The synthesized ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles exhibited a photosensitive nature and showed characteristic visible-light-induced activation. The degradation efficiency of RBV-5R was influenced by various operational parameters and reached almost complete degradation (99.9%) at specific conditions.

Designing, characterization, and evaluation of chitosan-zinc selenide nanoparticles for visible-light-induced degradation of tartrazine and sunset yellow dyes

Summary: In this study, chitosan-zinc selenide (CS-ZnSe) nanoparticles were used as efficient photocatalysts for decontaminating toxic dyes. The synthesized CS-ZnSe nanoparticles exhibited excellent degradation efficiency for tartrazine and sunset yellow dyes. The photocatalytic degradation process followed first-order kinetics, and the CS-ZnSe nanoparticles showed good recyclability for consecutive cycles of dye degradation. The results highlight the potential of CS-ZnS for removing organic dyes from industrial wastewater.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of enhancing charge separation and O-2 adsorption in order to improve the visible-light activity of pyropheophorbide-a (Ppa). The fabricated Ppa modified 001-facet-exposed TiO2 nanosheets (Ppa/001T) nanocomposites showed significantly enhanced activity for degradation of Ametryn (AME) under visible-light irradiation. This work provides insights into the design of high activity visible-light driven photocatalysts.

Design and fabrication of chitosan cross-linked bismuth sulfide nanoparticles for sequestration of mercury in river water samples

Summary: The presence of heavy metals, particularly mercury, in ecological systems poses a significant threat to living organisms due to their toxic and bio-accumulating properties. In this study, bismuth sulfide nanoparticles (BiSNPs) were synthesized and used with crosslinked chitosan to enhance their sorption capacity for mercury removal. The results showed that the BiS-CB sorbent exhibited excellent sorption capacity for mercury removal.

A facile strategy for the preparation of bismuth ferrite nanoparticles: Influence of calcination temperature on structural, dielectric, and morphological characteristics

Summary: In this study, single phase Bismuth Iron Oxide (BFO) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using the Sol-Gel method, and the effect of calcinating temperature on their crystallinity was investigated. The improvement in crystallinity was demonstrated by the growth of crystallites and the analysis of grain size using SEM and XRD. The dielectric constant of the nanoparticles was determined, showing a minimum value at higher frequency, and the temperature and frequency dependent properties were also studied. The results suggest the potential applications of the prepared BFO nanoparticles in advanced magneto and ferroelectric devices.

A rational design of g-C3N4-based ternary composite for highly efficient H2 generation and 2,4-DCP degradation

Summary: The ternary composite based on g-C3N4 (CeO2/CN/NH2-MIL-101(Fe)) exhibited superior photocatalytic activities for H2O reduction to produce H-2 and degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP). The enhanced photoactivities were attributed to the synergistic effects of proper band alignment and close interfacial contact of the three components, which significantly promoted charge transfer and separation. The degradation of 2,4-DCP over the composite was found to be primarily dominated by (OH)· radical, as confirmed by scavenger trapping experiments and electron para-magnetic resonance (EPR) study.

While polymeric carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has advantages such as low cost and thermal stability, a ternary composite of B-TiO2/MIL-53(Fe)/CN was fabricated for the first time to overcome its shortcomings and significantly improve photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution. This new composite shows enhanced charge carrier separation and transfer, leading to increased hydrogen production under visible and UV-visible light irradiations with the assistance of a co-catalyst.
