Effect of concurrent accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process and various heat treatment on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of AA1050 sheets

H. Roghani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of 1050 aluminum alloy sheets that underwent the accumulative roll bonding (ARB) method. The results showed that ARB significantly refined the grain size and improved the microhardness of the aluminum alloy sheets, with variations observed under different processing conditions.

Microstructural evolution and strengthening mechanisms in Al7075/graphene nano-plates/carbon nano-tubes composite processed through accumulative roll bonding

Siavash Imanian Ghazanlou et al.

Summary: In the present research, Al7075 matrix composites containing carbon nano-tubes (CNTs) and graphene nano-plates (GNPs) processed through accumulative roll bonding (ARB) up to 3 passes. The effect of CNTs and GNPs on microstructural evolution and strengthening mechanisms were investigated, showing that the occurrence of particle stimulated nucleation (PSN) is affected by the type of reinforcement and the number of ARB passes. The most significant strengthening mechanism found is the load transfer mechanism, while the effect of thermal expansion mismatch and Orowan mechanisms is less significant and the Hall-Petch mechanism is negligible.

Precipitation processes and structural evolutions of various GPB zones and two types of S phases in a cold-rolled Al-Mg-Cu alloy

Xuanliang Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the age-hardening behavior and precipitates in an Al-3Mg-1Cu alloy, revealing common and novel GPB zones, as well as two types of S phases. Density functional theory calculations showed that GPBX zone is stable, with S-I and S-II phases having similar formation enthalpy. The transformation of GPB zones to S-I phases and preferential formation of S-II phases from GPBX zones along dislocation lines were observed.

Effect of a trace amount addition of CuO on aluminum sheet processed by accumulative roll bonding with the common roots and rapid annealing

Hamed Roghani et al.

Summary: In this study, Al-CuO nanocomposite was successfully prepared through the addition of CuO nanoparticles and up to six accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process cycles. After 6 cycles of ARB treatment, the mean grain size of the specimens decreased significantly, while the ultimate tensile strength and microhardness increased substantially. The Al-CuO composite exhibited higher resistance to rapid annealing between ARB cycles.

Summary: The study focused on creating Al-0.5 vol% CuO composites using the ARB process. Different methods of ARB resulted in composite grains with average sizes of 219.19 nm, 306.54 nm, and 355.65 nm. The ARB process significantly increased the tensile strength of the composites.

Effects of annealing temperature on microstructure and mechanical behavior of conventionally and severely deformed Fe-24Ni steel by accumulative roll bonding

M. Howeyze et al.

Summary: The effects of annealing temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of conventionally and severely deformed Fe-24Ni martensitic steel processed by ARB were investigated. Higher annealing temperature led to complete reverse martensitic transformation and improved elongation in deformed samples. Annealing also improved work hardenability of the deformed samples, while decreasing yield strength and ultimate tensile strength.
