Pulsed Demand Modeling for the Optimal Placement of Water Quality Sensors in Water Distribution Networks

C. Giudicianni et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the consistency issue of water distribution network (WDN) modeling for optimal water quality sensor placement. By considering the contamination extension or contaminated population in relation to the number of sensors installed, a biobjective optimization is conducted. The study finds that the contamination extension increases when pulsed demand is considered, and the optimal sensor positions are affected by pulsed demand, especially in highly looped WDN layouts.

Bottom-Up Generation of Peak Demand Scenarios in Water Distribution Networks

Enrico Creaco et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a two-step methodology for stochastic generation of snapshot peak demand scenarios in water distribution networks, using a beta probabilistic model to describe hourly demands. The application to user demand data from Soccavo, Naples showed the effectiveness and robustness of the methodology for various numbers and sizes of users.
