Mengmeng Lou et al.

Summary: In this study, an electrically MD process (E-MD) was conducted by coupling electrified carbon nanotube (CNT) membrane to improve the intercept efficiency of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The results showed that CNT significantly promoted the conductivity and permeate performance of the membrane. Moreover, different intercept efficiencies could be achieved by using different CNT modes.

Identification of priority areas for water ecosystem services by a techno-economic, social and climate change modeling framework

Ziqian Zhu et al.

Summary: Water scarcity and quality deterioration are common in economically developing regions, and selecting priority areas is an effective strategy to mitigate water crises. This study proposes a novel framework that considers the interaction between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems to predict the effects of climate change and human activities, and selects priority areas for multiple water-related ecosystem services. The results of a case study in China show that the conservation efficiency of the priority areas decreased as climate change accelerated, and the selection of priority areas was influenced by precipitation, temperature, and topographic factors.

Summary: This study focused on enhancing oil-membrane electrostatic repulsion in electricity-assisted membrane distillation using electrically conductive hydrophobic membrane. By coating carbon nanotubes on commercial membranes to fabricate membrane cathodes, the modified membrane showed significantly less flux decline in dealing with high-concentration oil emulsions. The anti-oil fouling robustness was confirmed through continuous operation cycles, and the study highlighted the role of electrically conductive membrane cathodes in modulating foulant-membrane interactions at the triple-phase interface to mitigate fouling/wetting issues.
