A recent development on iron-oxidising bacteria (IOB) applications in water and wastewater treatment

Wen Si Lee et al.

Summary: This paper reviews recent developments in the application of iron-oxidizing bacteria (IOB) in water and wastewater treatment, discussing oxidation processes, species variations, applications, challenges, issues, and future prospects. Although IOB technology is preferred for its low cost and environmental friendliness, the presence of IOB in piping systems may cause microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).

Effectiveness of Fe, Mn, UV254 and Colour Removal from Pre-ozonated Groundwater Using Anthracite Coal

Nor Azliza Akbar et al.

Summary: The study found that anthracite coal could effectively remove Fe, UV254, and color from pre-ozonated groundwater, with a maximum removal efficiency of 67%, 43%, and 76% respectively. However, it showed no significant removal of Mn. The optimal conditions for maximum removal efficiency were observed at 100 g anthracite dosage, agitation speed of 300 rpm, pH of 7, and contact time of 90 minutes for all parameters. Adsorption and kinetics models fit well with the experimental results, indicating anthracite as a viable option for groundwater treatment.

Effect of pre-aeration on the removal of arsenic and iron from natural groundwater in household based ceramic filters

Md Shafiquzzaman

Summary: Pre-aeration of groundwater significantly improved the removal efficiency of As and Fe in the iron nested ceramic filter (CF), with As and Fe removal efficiency more than 82% and 99%, respectively in the AGW system. XAFS analysis indicated that the oxidation of Fe2+ and As(III) and subsequent adoption/precipitation are the main processes controlling the removals of As and Fe in the CFs.
