Quality and Health Risk Assessment of Groundwater for Drinking and Irrigation Purpose in Semi-Arid Region of India Using Entropy Water Quality and Statistical Techniques

Balamurugan Panneerselvam et al.

Summary: This study collected and analyzed groundwater samples from 43 locations in the semi-arid southern part of India to evaluate the suitability for drinking and irrigation. The integration of hydrochemical analysis with water quality index, nitrate pollution index, and human health risk assessment revealed the contamination sources and related risks. The results showed that a significant portion of the samples required treatment before consumption, had high nitrate concentrations, and displayed moderate or significant pollution levels. Children were found to be at higher non-carcinogenic risk compared to other age groups. Mitigation measures and sustainable groundwater management planning are recommended to reduce contamination.

Alginate coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles as nanocomposite adsorbents for arsenic removal from aqueous solutions

Somayeh Asadi Haris et al.

Summary: Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) were synthesized and used for efficient removal of arsenite (As(III)). The optimum removal percentages for SPIONs and SPIONs-Alg were 99% and 90%, respectively, at pH 7, 30 degrees C, and 6.5 mg/L As (III) concentration. The Langmuir isotherm model fitted the equilibrium data better than Freundlich. The adsorption kinetic data showed a better fit to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. SPIONs-Alg could be easily collected, recovered, and reused for multiple cycles with high sorption efficiency.

Removal of tetracycline from wastewater using g-C3N4 based photocatalysts: A review

Akash Balakrishnan et al.

Summary: Tetracycline is one of the most widely used antibiotics in human therapy, veterinary applications, and agricultural activities. Its consumption is expected to increase by over 30% by 2030. This review focuses on the recent advancements in photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline using graphitic carbon nitride-based photocatalysts, which offer higher visible light activity, low cost, and non-toxicity. The properties, worldwide consumption, occurrence, and environmental impacts of tetracycline are comprehensively discussed. The occurrence of tetracycline in various water matrices has been confirmed, with a maximum concentration of 54 μg/L. Among different graphitic carbon nitride-based materials, heterojunctions have shown the highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency of 100% with reusability for up to 5 cycles. Photocatalytic membranes are found to be feasible due to ease of recovery and better reusability. The limitations and efficient solutions for graphitic carbon nitride-based wastewater treatment technology are also emphasized in detail.

Removal of tetracycline from aqueous solutions by adsorption on raw Ca-bentonite. Effect of operating conditions and adsorption mechanism

Uziel Ortiz-Ramos et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption of tetracycline onto different clays and analyzed the adsorption mechanisms and influencing factors. Bentonite showed the highest adsorption capacity due to its swelling characteristic, interlayer cations, and tetracycline molecular size. Adsorption occurred on the external surface and in the interlayer space of bentonite, with both physical and chemical mechanisms involved. The adsorption process was partially reversible and endothermic.
