MnO2-Based Materials for Environmental Applications

Ruijie Yang et al.

Summary: Manganese dioxide is a promising semiconductor material for environmental applications, but its purification efficiency has been limited. Recent efforts have focused on improving the purification efficiency through morphology control and structure construction. MnO2-based materials have potential for adsorption and degradation of pollutants, and future research should focus on nanostructures and composite design.

Surface Engineering Materials of Superhydrophobic Sponges for Oil/Water Separation: A Review

Ebenezer Kobina Sam et al.

Summary: The use of sponge-based materials in oil/water separation has attracted significant attention due to their easy fabrication, recyclability, environmental friendliness, and low cost. By modifying these sponges with low surface energy materials and nano/micro hierarchical roughness, their wettability can be changed to superhydrophobicity/superoleophilicity, making them applicable in oil/water separation. Materials such as organosilicons, carbon-based materials, oxides, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been used for modifying sponges, and the potential future applications of these materials in oil/water separation are discussed.

Fabrication of hydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic SiO2/silk fibroin coated mesh for oil/water separation

Jie Chen et al.

Summary: The anti-fouling silk fibroin-silicon dioxide nanocomposites membrane showed high efficiency in separating diesel/water mixtures and other oils, with a separation efficiency of over 98.6% even after 50 cycles. This membrane also exhibited stability in harsh environments and long-term use, making it promising for practical oil-water mixture separation applications.
