Functionalization of carbon from rubber fruit shells (Hevea brasiliensis) with silane agents and its application to the adsorption of bi-component mixtures of methylene blue and crystal violet

Mita Buhani et al.

Summary: In this research, activated carbon obtained from rubber fruit shells (ACRPs) was modified with magnetite coating and silanization with triethoxyiphenylsilane (TEPS) to produce a new magnetic adsorbent (ACRPs-MS). The adsorption capacity and kinetics of the ACRPs-MS adsorbent were evaluated for methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV) dyes in mono-component and bi-component solutions. The results showed that ACRPs-MS exhibited strong affinity towards both dyes and followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorbent could be reused multiple times and desorption was successfully achieved using 0.05 M HCl solution.

Adsorption Kinetics and Isotherm of Crystal Violet by Carbon Modified with Magnetite (Fe3O4) and Triethoxyphenylsilane (TEPS) from Rubber Fruit Shell

Nadya Syarifatul Fajriyah et al.

Summary: Rubber fruit shells-derived carbon modified with magnetite and triethoxyphenylsilane effectively adsorbs crystal violet dye. The modification was confirmed by FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDX. The ideal adsorption conditions were an adsorbent dose of 0.1 g, pH 10, contact time of 15 min, and initial concentration of CV 250 mg L-1. The adsorption capacities of MRC and SRC were 71.43 and 69.93 mg g-1, respectively. The adsorption kinetics fit a pseudo-second-order model and the Freundlich adsorption isotherm was suitable. These findings demonstrate the effective removal of CV dye by modified rubber fruit shells.

Graphene oxide/hollow mesoporous silica composite for selective adsorption of methylene blue

Muge Sari Yilmaz

Summary: In this study, graphene oxide/hollow mesoporous silica and layered double hydroxide/hollow mesoporous silica composites were synthesized and compared for their adsorption behavior towards different dyes. The graphene oxide/hollow mesoporous silica showed better selectivity and stability in adsorption of methylene blue compared to layered double hydroxide/hollow mesoporous silica.

Adsorption of Gentian violet dye onto mesoporous aluminosilica monoliths: nanoarchitectonics and application to industrial wastewater

Ghaferah H. Al-Hazmi et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the ability of cubic Ia3d aluminosilica (CAS) adsorbent to remove cationic dye Gentian violet (GV) from aqueous solutions. The CAS adsorbent showed high adsorption capacity and followed pseudo-second-order kinetic. The adsorption of GV onto CAS adsorbent was dominated by electrostatic attraction forces, hydrogen bonding, ion-exchange, and pore filling. The CAS adsorbent showed good recyclability and regenerability.

Summary: This study investigates the use of activated carbon coated with magnetite to adsorb Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions in solution. The coated activated carbon shows enhanced adsorbent properties, as confirmed by SEM-EDX, XRD, FTIR, and BET analyses. The adsorbent is highly effective, achieving adsorption percentages of 99.60% for Cu(II) and 99.11% for Ni(II).

A critical review of biosorption of dyes, heavy metals and metalloids from wastewater as an efficient and green process

A. M. Elgarahy et al.

Summary: Wastewater containing dyes, heavy metals, and metalloids poses significant environmental and public health threats, and conventional treatment methods are insufficient in removing them completely. Biosorption emerges as a promising green and cost-effective technology to tackle this issue, with the need for developing more bio-based adsorbents for better pollutant removal efficiency.

Removal of Cd(II) ions in solution by activated carbon from palm oil shells modified with magnetite

Buhani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of modified palm oil shells carbon coated by Fe3O4 particles as an adsorbent to remove Cd(II) ions from solution. The adsorption process was found to be optimal at pH 6 and 7, with a contact time of 90 minutes. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model, with high correlation coefficients. Successive cycles of adsorption showed consistent efficiency in removing Cd(II) ions from solution, demonstrating the potential for repeated use of the adsorbent.
