Electrocoagulation for the Treatment of Metals Machining Plants Effluents: Experimental and Modeling Study

Ahmed Y. Kilany et al.

Summary: Treatment of effluents from mechanical machining of copper and copper alloys was investigated using electrocoagulation. The study focused on the removal of cutting oils and toxic copper ions. Various factors such as current density, pH, temperature, pollutants' concentrations, electrolyte amount, and gas sparging were examined. The results showed that the cubic model was a good fit for the experimental data. The simultaneous removal of oil and Cu2+ in the same cell could reduce operational and capital expenses for wastewater treatment.

Khairunnadhrah Jasri et al.

Summary: Employing agricultural waste to develop activated carbon is a sustainable approach. This study developed a mesoporous activated carbon through microwave radiation-assisted K2CO3 activation of agricultural waste. The optimized conditions resulted in a high removal efficiency (99.6%) of methylene blue. The OPFPKSAC exhibited excellent adsorption capability and demonstrated potential for the removal of toxic pollutants.

Mesoporous activated carbon from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) peels by H3PO4 assisted microwave: Optimization, characterization, and adsorption mechanism for methylene blue dye removal

Ali H. Jawad et al.

Summary: This study reported a facile method to synthesize mangosteen peels activated carbon (MSPAC) with high carbon content and mesoporous structure. MSPAC showed excellent adsorption capability for methylene blue (MB) dye removal from aqueous solutions. The optimization of adsorption conditions using response surface methodology resulted in the best parameters for maximum MB removal. The kinetic and equilibrium results were best represented by the PSO and Langmuir models, respectively. Thermodynamic findings indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. This work highlights the significance of MSPAC as an environmentally friendly adsorbent for removing cationic synthetic dyes from polluted water.

High-Surface-Area-Activated Carbon Derived from Mango Peels and Seeds Wastes via Microwave-Induced ZnCl2 Activation for Adsorption of Methylene Blue Dye Molecules: Statistical Optimization and Mechanism

Nur Shakinah Razali et al.

Summary: In this study, high-surface-area-activated carbon (MSMPAC) was synthesized using Mango (Mangifera indica) seeds and peels mixed fruit wastes as a renewable precursor and microwave-induced ZnCl2 activation. The performance of MSMPAC in removing cationic dye (methylene blue, MB) from water was evaluated. The key adsorption factors (MSMPAC dose, pH, and time) were investigated using the Box-Behnken design. Langmuir model was found to fit the adsorption isotherm data well, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 232.8 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics followed both pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. MB adsorption on MSMPAC surface was spontaneous and endothermic. The mechanisms of MB adsorption included electrostatic forces, pore filling, pi-pi stacking, and H-bonding.

Insight into adsorption mechanism, modeling, and desirability function of crystal violet and methylene blue dyes by microalgae: Box-Behnken design application

Ahmed Saud Abdulhameed et al.

Summary: In this study, microalgae (MAG) was used as an environmentally friendly and efficient adsorbent for the removal of crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) dyes from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was optimized using a Box-Behnken design (BBD), and the kinetics and isotherm analyses revealed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models. MAG exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 243.0 mg/g for CV and 297.1 mg/g for MB. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption of CV and MB dyes onto MAG was spontaneous and endothermic. The adsorption mechanism involved electrostatic forces, n-?? stacking, and H-bonding. Overall, MAG shows promise as an effective adsorbent for removing dyestuffs from industrial effluent.
