A comparison of the International Consensus and 5th World Health Organization classifications of mature B-cell lymphomas

Brunangelo Falini et al.

Summary: Multiple editions of WHO classification have served as international standards for lympho-hemopoietic neoplasms diagnosis. Recent advances in clinico-pathological, immunophenotypic, and molecular studies have led to the refinement of diagnostic criteria, upgrading of provisional entities, and identification of new entities. This has resulted in the proposals of International Consensus Classification (ICC) and WHO-HAEM5. This paper reviews and compares the two classifications in terms of diagnostic criteria and entity definition, with a focus on mature B-cell neoplasms, aiming to assist pathologists, hematologists, and researchers in lymphoma diagnosis and treatment.

Cryptic MYC insertions in Burkitt lymphoma: New data and a review of the literature

Renata Woroniecka et al.

Summary: The occurrence of MYC-negative Burkitt lymphoma (BL) has been a topic of discussion, and the exact frequency of MYC insertions in MYC-negative BL is still unknown. This study evaluated fine-needle aspiration biopsies from 108 patients with suspected BL and found that a percentage of them had MYC insertions, providing valuable insights into the issue of MYC negativity in BL.
