Cardiovascular Disease Risk Among Cancer Survivors

Roberta Florido et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in cancer survivors in a prospective community-based study. The results showed that adult cancer survivors have a significantly higher risk of CVD compared to individuals without cancer.

Time-Dependent Effect of Anthracycline-Based Chemotherapy on Central Arterial Stiffness: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Caroline Schneider et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the time-dependent effect of anthracycline-based chemotherapy (ANTH-BC) on arterial stiffness in cancer patients. The results suggest that ANTH-BC increases arterial stiffness in the short-term, but these changes may be partly reversible after therapy termination. However, further studies are needed to clarify the long-term consequences of ANTH-BC on arterial stiffness.

Doxorubicin Impairs Smooth Muscle Cell Contraction: Novel Insights in Vascular Toxicity

Matthias Bosman et al.

Summary: Chemotherapeutic doxorubicin has been shown to increase arterial stiffness, possibly by reducing vascular smooth muscle cell contraction and Ca2+ influx through Ca2+ channels. However, the specific mechanism remains unclear and requires further investigation. Interestingly, doxorubicin decreased ex vivo arterial stiffness but had minimal effects in vivo, emphasizing the importance of timing in evaluating arterial stiffness in doxorubicin-treated patients.

Accelerated coronary calcium burden in breast cancer patients after radiotherapy: a comparison with age and race matched healthy women

Yu-Hsuan Lai et al.

Summary: This study implies that breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy may experience accelerated coronary artery calcium burden, especially in left-side breast cancer patients. Lowering the mean dose to the right coronary artery can reduce the risk of accelerated coronary artery calcium burden in breast cancer patients by over 50%.

Arterial Stiffness: Effects of Anticancer Drugs Used for Breast Cancer Women

Giuseppina Novo et al.

Summary: In breast cancer patients, anthracycline-containing chemotherapy can lead to early changes in arterial stiffness parameters, which appear to be reversible upon cessation of anthracycline treatment and are not influenced by modifications in blood pressure values.

Doxorubicin induces arterial stiffness: A comprehensive in vivo and ex vivo evaluation of vascular toxicity in mice

Summary: This study in mice confirmed that treatment with DOX increases arterial stiffness, with high dose DOX resulting in increased aaPWV and impaired endothelial function leading to elevated vascular tone.
