Sustainable Isolation and Application of Plant Extract-Based Natural Dye for Bio-Dyeing of Silk Fabric

Abu Talib et al.

Summary: Green products like plant pigments are being recognized globally due to their ayurvedic and biological characteristics. This study utilizes microwave radiation and bio-mordants to extract colorants from black pepper and achieve colorfast shades. The optimization of dyeing variables using Central Composite design shows that the combination of irradiated acidic extract, table salt, and specific dyeing conditions result in excellent color depth onto microwave-treated silk fabric. Additionally, the use of bio-mordants, such as walnut extract, pinenut hull extract, and orange peel extract, enhances the colorfastness of the fabric.
