Experimental research on a hydrodynamic thrust bearing with hydrostatic lift pockets: Influence of lubrication modes on bearing performance

J. Bouyer et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of a thrust bearing equipped with hydrostatic lift pockets under different lubrication modes. Experimental results showed that introducing hydrostatic lubrication can improve the bearing performance. Speed was identified as a critical parameter affecting the hydrostatic effect and film thickness.

Performance of a Spherical Hybrid Thrust Rearing Considering the Influence of Surface Irregularities and MR Lubricant Behavior

Satish C. Sharma et al.

Summary: This article presents the finite element modeling of a spherical hybrid thrust bearing, considering the influence of three-dimensional surface irregularities and magnetorheological lubricant behavior. The study shows that by considering the surface irregularities and operating with MR fluid, the performance of the bearing is improved, but this improvement comes at the cost of power loss due to viscous friction.

A comparative performance assessment of hydrostatic thrust bearings operating with electrorheological lubricant

Atul Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of hydrostatic thrust bearings operating with electrorheological (ER) lubricant. The effects of pocket shape, compensating elements and ER lubricant on bearing performance are studied. The results show that the application of ER lubricant significantly enhances the load-carrying capacity, stiffness and damping of the bearings.
