Compete or cooperate? Effects of channel relationships on government policies for sustainability

Guowei Dou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of channel relationships between manufacturers on government policies and explores the effectiveness of positive incentives versus taxes in increasing social welfare. The findings suggest that competition may be more effective in improving sustainability and social welfare. Additionally, government incentives for green technology may not necessarily enhance sustainability.

Conditions towards manufacturing upgrading in the era of Industry 4.0

Jiaguo Liu et al.

Summary: As a manufacturing power in the era of Industry 4.0, the Chinese traditional manufacturing industry urgently needs innovation and upgrading, with financial shortages being the main pressure. The government can provide financial support to alleviate the burden and promote innovation, especially when the traditional manufacturer innovates. Moderate market competition and government subsidies result in the best conditions for upgrading. Excessive subsidies hinder upgrading and exacerbate market competition, regardless of the traditional manufacturer's profits.

Complexity analysis and control of game behavior of subjects in green building materials supply chain considering technology subsidies

Yingmiao Qian et al.

Summary: The national priority of carbon neutrality and decarbonization goals are driving the transformation and upgrading of China's construction industry. The production of green building materials is a key method to reduce carbon emissions. In order to promote the green development of the construction industry and achieve decarbonization goals, a supply-chain system, including a general contractor and two green building material manufacturers, is investigated under technology subsidies. A Stackelberg model is constructed to examine the impact of technology subsidies on the green technology innovation of the supply chain. The study utilizes the backward induction method to analyze the technology innovation decision-making behavior of the green building material players in the supply chain. MATLAB software is used to simulate the long-term game and investigate the stability and dynamic changes of the system. The results suggest that decision-making stability in the green building material supply chain is beneficial to the overall stability of the supply chain system. Reasonable technology subsidy policies can promote the degree of green building materials to achieve maximum efficiency.

Optimal Trade-in Return Policies: Is it Wise to be Generous?†

Kaiying Cao et al.

Summary: This study explores the optimal choice of a trade-in-return policy and finds that there is no difference to the firm between a full-trade-in-return and a partial-trade-in-return policy when no trade-in consumers keep unsatisfactory new products. It also suggests that, in the case of a relatively medium residual value of the used product, full-trade-in-return is always the better choice for the firm. Additionally, the firm may not reduce its trade-in rebate even when the average new product satisfaction rate of trade-in consumers increases.

Pollution abatement using cap-and-trade in a dynamic supply chainand its coordination

Xinyu Wang et al.

Summary: This study examines a two-period supply chain where a manufacturer participates in a cap-and-trade scheme with uncertain emission permit prices, and a retailer faces price-sensitive demand. The study finds that the level of pollution abatement increases with the permit price and decreases with its uncertainty. The impact of permit price is weaker in a dirtier supply chain, while uncertainty has a stronger effect.

The Sustainable Supply Chain Network Competition Based on Non-Cooperative Equilibrium under Carbon Emission Permits

Peiyue Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper examines the competition in a multi-tiered closed-loop supply chain network under carbon emission permits and discusses the impact of stringent carbon regulations on network performance. Numerical examples reveal that the cap-sharing scheme effectively coordinates the relationship between system profit and carbon emission abatement, while the cap-and-trade regulation is less efficient.

Kaiying Cao et al.

Summary: The study explores two different strategies for trade-in of unused EW, namely not offering a rebate and offering a rebate. The results show that not offering a rebate is better when the percentage of replacement consumers with unused EW and the extra operational cost of providing a rebate are sufficiently large.

Carbon reduction decisions under progressive carbon tax regulations: A new dual-channel supply chain network equilibrium model

Guitao Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a dual-channel supply chain network equilibrium model based on variational inequality theory to investigate the impact of the government's progressive carbon tax mechanism design on manufacturers. The results show that setting high-level carbon tax and cut-off value appropriately can induce manufacturers to improve abatement level and align with the government's low-carbon emission target.

Study on Emission Reduction Strategies of Dual-Channel Supply Chain Considering Green Finance

Cheng Che et al.

Summary: Green finance serves as a weapon for economic development, supporting enterprises in economic recovery and transformation post-epidemic. The study found that in the scenarios involving carbon trading and green finance loans, manufacturers' emission reduction level is inversely proportional to profits, but increasing emission reductions still lead to growing demand and profits.

Summary: Government subsidies play a significant role in promoting green technology investment and emission reduction, but their effectiveness depends on factors such as green investment cost, emission reduction rate, and carbon emission intensity. Higher subsidies can lead to the implementation of more expensive but cleaner green technology.

Emissions trading with transaction costs

Marc Baudry et al.

Summary: This research developed an equilibrium model of emissions permit trading in the presence of fixed and proportional trading costs, finding that the trading costs have significant effects on permit prices and firms' behavior. The study suggests that ignoring trading costs may lead to underestimating the price impacts of supply-curbing policies, with differences varying among firms.

Does implementing trade-in and green technology together benefit the environment?

Guowei Dou et al.

Summary: Green technologies are increasingly popular in modern manufacturing operations, while trade-in programs are widely implemented. The combination of green technology and trade-in programs may not always be beneficial to the environment. Retailer collects with green technology can lead to the highest levels of supply chain profit and social welfare, but may result in more emissions. Governments should advocate for manufacturer collects with green technology and retailer collects without green technology.

Matching-game approach for green technology investment strategies in a supply chain under environmental regulations

Summary: This study investigates the optimal GT investment-production strategy for manufacturers in the supply chain and explores how the government can formulate the best subsidy strategy to stimulate GT innovation behavior among managers. The results show that stable matching between manufacturers and GT-suppliers can be achieved, and that GT investment profit and subsidy profit outweigh non-investment and non-subsidy profit, respectively. Furthermore, an increase in carbon price leads to higher GT investment intensity, product greenness, and green demand.
