Isotropic energy absorption of topology optimized lattice structure

Summary: Lightweight lattice structures have gained much attention in various fields due to their high specific mechanical properties. This study investigates the energy absorption of a 3D printed titanium-based isotropic lattice structure. The results show that the topology optimized lattice exhibits excellent energy absorption isotropy and comparable performance to other lattice structures.

Isotropic design and mechanical characterization of TPMS-based hollow cellular structures

Summary: This paper presents an isotropic design method for TPMS-based cellular structures, which are optimized using Boolean operations and genetic algorithms to achieve isotropic hollow structures with superior mechanical properties. Compared to solid counterparts, the optimized isotropic hollow cellular structures exhibit higher Young's modulus, bulk modulus, as well as better load-bearing and energy absorption properties in static and dynamic compression scenarios.

On crashworthiness of novel porous structure based on composite TPMS structures

The results show that smooth-shell lattice-filled tubes have better crashworthiness compared to traditional foam-filled tubes. Smooth-shell lattice-filled tubes can be used as excellent energy absorption structures in impact engineering.

Anisotropic compression behaviors of bio-inspired modified body-centered cubic lattices validated by additive manufacturing

Summary: The modified body-centered cubic (MBCC) lattice structure, inspired by the deep-sea glass sponge, has been designed and optimized to have better energy absorption capacity compared to conventional structures. Extensive finite element simulations and experimental tests have validated its performance. Results show that the MBCC lattice exhibits higher energy absorption capacity than previous bio-inspired and conventional structures, approaching that of titanium alloy foams.

Crushing behaviors of the thin-walled sandwich column under axial load
