Enzymatic Conversion of CO2: From Natural to Artificial Utilization

Sarah Bierbaumer et al.

Summary: Enzymatic carbon dioxide fixation is important for converting inorganic carbon from the atmosphere into organic biomass. However, the thermodynamics and utilization of CO2 make it challenging for biotechnological applications. This review provides an overview of natural CO2-fixing enzymes, discusses their applications, and suggests strategies for improving efficiency. It also explores the potential of using reduced CO2 derivates and offers a techno-economic perspective on reducing CO2 emissions.

Radical Carboxylative Cyclizations and Carboxylations with CO2

Jian-Heng Ye et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide is a valuable carbon resource in organic synthesis, but its utilization is challenging due to stability and inertness. Researchers have developed radical-type carboxylations and cyclizations using visible-light photoredox catalysis and copper catalysis. These strategies have expanded the scope of CO2 transformations and provided new methods for selective organic synthesis.

Nickel-Catalyzed Asymmetric Reductive Carbo-Carboxylation of Alkenes with CO2

Xiao-Wang Chen et al.

Summary: The asymmetric reductive carbo-carboxylation of alkenes via nickel catalysis provides an efficient method for the synthesis of carboxylic acids with mild reaction conditions, wide substrate scope, and good selectivity. This approach opens up a new avenue for the total synthesis of chiral natural products using CO2.
