An early Precambrian ?orogenic belt? exhumed by the Phanerozoic tectonic events: A case study of the eastern North China Craton

Lei Zhao et al.

Summary: The occurrence of high-grade basement rocks in ancient continental blocks provides evidence for the operation of early plate tectonics. The Jiaobei Terrane in the North China Craton is an ideal study area to investigate the variations in metamorphic grade and the emplacement of basement rocks. The research on this terrane is of great importance due to its significance in understanding plate tectonics.

Polyphase deformation in the Badu complex: Insights into Triassic intraplate orogeny in South China

Jianhua Li et al.

Summary: This study examines the structural evolution within the Badu complex in southern China, revealing a series of deformation events at different stages. By combining structural analysis with geothermochronology, the study provides insights into the timing and conditions of these events, shedding light on the high-pressure metamorphism and localized structural anomaly in the region.

Metamorphism and geochronology of high-pressure mafic granulites (retrograded eclogites?) in East Cathaysia terrane of South China: Implications for Mesozoic tectonic evolution

Yanfei Xia et al.

Summary: Minor lenses of high-pressure mafic granulites were discovered in the Badu Complex of the East Cathaysia terrane in South China. These rocks underwent three metamorphic stages and exhibited two decompression processes. Zircon U-Pb dating suggests high-pressure metamorphism occurred at approximately 240-244 Ma.

Formation of an Intracontinental Orogen Above the Permo-Triassic Mantle Convection Cell in the Paleo-Tethys Tectonic Realm due to Far-Field Stress Derived From Continental Margins

Lei Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper studies the high-grade metamorphic rocks in the northeastern Cathaysia Block of the South China Block (SCB) during the Indosinian orogeny. The characteristics and spatial distribution of these rocks suggest that they are part of an intracontinental orogenic belt. After comparing plate margin activities, it is proposed that the driving mechanism of the SCB Indosinian intracontinental orogenic belt could have broader implications for other intraplate orogens worldwide.

Triassic two-stage intra-continental orogensis of the South China Block, driven by Paleotethyan closure and interactions with adjoining blocks

Yuejun Wang et al.

Summary: The South China Block underwent two distinct Triassic deformations, including northward dextral thrusting and northeasterly sinistral transpression. These deformations shed light on the mechanism driving intra-continental omgenesis in the SCB and were influenced by the closure of the Paleotethyan Ocean and interactions with adjoining blocks.

Identification of two-phased late Paleoproterozoic magmatism in the Wuyishan Domain (SE China): Implications for the tectonic evolution of the Cathaysia Block

Aimei Zhang et al.

Summary: During the early Neoproterozoic time, the Cathaysia Block amalgamated with the Yangtze Block along the Jiangnan orogenic belt to form the South China Craton. Late Paleoproterozoic A- and S-type granitoids were identified in the Wuyishan Domain of the Cathaysia Block, suggesting two-phased arc/back-arc magmatism related to the assembly of the Paleoproterozoic Nuna supercontinent. The Cathaysia Block was likely located close to the northern India Shield during Proterozoic time until the breakup of the Rodinia Supercontinent in the late Neoproterozoic.

Late Triassic contractional tectonics in the overriding plate of the Sulu orogenic belt, Eastern China

Lingtong Meng et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the structural analysis and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility in the Linsishan unit of the Jiaobei massif, revealing significant ductile deformation characterized by SW-directed thrusting. The deformation temperature is determined to be between 350-450 degrees Celsius based on quartz c-axis fabrics, and the timing of deformation is constrained to be 223-221 Ma according to 40Ar/39Ar dating. These results support a three-stage evolution model for the Sulu orogenic belt, including UHP metamorphism, SW-directed thrusting, and post-collisional processes.

Early crustal evolution of the Yangtze Block: Constraints from zircon U-Pb-Hf isotope systematics of 3.1-1.9 Ga granitoids in the Cuoke Complex, SW China

Xiaozhuang Cui et al.

Summary: The newly identified Cuoke Complex in South China contains voluminous early Precambrian granitoids, providing key information for the early evolution of the Yangtze Block. The complex consists of granitoids with different crystallization ages and magmatic activities, likely derived from reworking of ancient crustal materials or remelting of juvenile continental crust.
