Basilar artery formed by persistent primitive trigeminal artery: a case report

Rabia Tasdemir et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to present a case of basilar artery formed by persistent primitive trigeminal artery diagnosed using digital subtraction angiography. PPTA is a common branching variation of embryological origin, typically joining the BA and supplying SCA, AICA, or PICA branches. This is the first report of a case where the VA terminates in the PICA, and PPTA forms the BA and solely supplies the posterior circulation.

An anatomical study of persistent trigeminal artery detected by computed tomography angiography and magnetic resonance angiography: proposal for a modified classification and a novel basilar artery grading system

Wei Huang et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to investigate the anatomical characteristics of persistent trigeminal artery (PTA) detected by CTA and MRA, and propose a modified classification and grading system for basilar artery (BA). A total of 57 PTA patients were detected, and the revised PTA classification and BA grading system can provide a better understanding of the vascular structure of PTA patients.

Persistent trigeminal artery detected on computed tomography angiography

Muhammed Akif Deniz et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of persistent trigeminal arteries (PTAs) using computed tomography (CT) angiography and compare the findings with relevant literature. The study included 1150 patients who underwent cerebral CT angiography, and the results showed a prevalence of 0.6% for PTAs. Understanding and diagnosing PTAs is crucial for physicians and radiologists in order to prevent potential vascular pathologies.
