Innate immune signaling in trophoblast and decidua organoids defines differential antiviral defenses at the maternal-fetal interface

Liheng Yang et al.

Summary: This study developed matched trophoblast and decidua organoids to investigate the antiviral defenses at the maternal-fetal interface. The researchers found that trophoblasts and decidua cells have distinct immunomodulatory factors and respond differently to viral infections. They also established a co-culture model that showed trophoblast-derived factors can protect decidual cells from human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection, indicating the importance of understanding innate immune signaling in both fetal-derived trophoblasts and maternal decidua.

Cannabidiol for COVID-19 Patients with Mild to Moderate Symptoms (CANDIDATE Study): A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial

Jose Alexandre S. Crippa et al.

Summary: A clinical trial conducted in Brazil showed that daily administration of 300 mg CBD for 14 days failed to alter the clinical evolution of COVID-19, with no significant effect on symptom resolution. CBD was well tolerated, producing mostly mild and transient side effects.

The Effects of Cannabinoids on Pro- and Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines: A Systematic Review of In Vivo Studies

Frances R. Henshaw et al.

Summary: Through the study, it was found that CBD, CBG, and CBD+THC combination have anti-inflammatory effects in vivo, whereas THC alone does not reduce pro-inflammatory or increase anti-inflammatory cytokines. This information could be used to guide human clinical trials of cannabinoids, focusing on CBD and CBG to reduce inflammation across a range of pathophysiological processes.
