Recruitment rates and strategies in exercise trials in cancer survivorship: a systematic review

Summary: Despite the evidence supporting the benefits of exercise for cancer survivors, recruitment rates for exercise trials in this population are suboptimal. This systematic review examines current recruitment rates, strategies, and barriers to participation in exercise oncology trials. The study finds that recruitment rates vary widely, with active recruitment strategies and prostate cancer trials having higher rates. Lack of interest, distance/transportation issues, and failure to contact are common reasons for non-participation.

TrueNTH Sexual Recovery Intervention for couples coping with prostate cancer: Randomized controlled trial results

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness of a web-based program in supporting couples' sexual recovery after prostate cancer treatment. The program did not lead to improved satisfaction with sex life 6 months after treatment, but couples in the intervention group engaged in sexual activities sooner than those in the control group. Participants evaluated the program positively and would recommend it to others facing prostate cancer treatment.

Supportive care needs of men with prostate cancer: A systematic review update

Summary: The review identified 2091 citations, with 105 included. Overarching themes emerged under the headings of illness, everyday life and biographical work. Illness work needs include consistency and continuity of information, tailored to ethnicity, age and sexual orientation. Biographical work focused on a desire to preserve identity in the context of damaging sexual side effects. Everyday life needs centred around exercise and diet support and supportive relationships with partners and peers. Work-related issues were highlighted specifically by younger patients, whereas gay and bisexual men emphasised a lack of specialised support.

Group-based learning can increase healthcare professionals' knowledge and awareness of lung cancer screening.

Global patterns in testicular cancer incidence and mortality in 2020

Summary: Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men of European ancestry and has been increasing in incidence, although mortality rates have been declining in high-income settings. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 44, with the highest incidence rates in Western, Northern, and Southern Europe and Oceania, and the lowest rates in Asia and Africa. Mortality rates are highest in Central and South America, and lowest in Northern Europe, Northern Africa, and Eastern Asia. There is significant variation in incidence and mortality rates among different countries.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
