Nucleation and epitaxy growth of high-entropy REBa2Cu3O7-d (RE= Y, Dy, Gd, Sm, Eu) thin films by metal organic deposition

Jing Chen et al.

Summary: High-entropy REBa2Cu3O7-d (RE = Y0.7 + Dy0.2 + Gd0.2 + Sm0.2 + Eu0.2) (HE-REBCO) superconducting films with a thickness of up to 800 nm were successfully fabricated using a trifluoroacetate-metal organic deposition (TFA-MOD) method. The enhanced entropy change DS of the HE-REBCO system promotes the c-axis growth of the REBCO thin film compared to the a/b-axis growth. The microstructure analysis revealed that the HE-REBCO films have stacking defects, lattice distortions, and various rare earth oxides.

BaMO3 (M = Zr, Hf) Doped REBCO Tapes Fabricated by Fluorine-Free MOD

Tatsuhiko Yoshihara et al.

Summary: REBCO films with BaMO3 artificial pinning centers were fabricated using a low-cost fluorine-free metal organic decomposition (FF-MOD) method. The size of BMO formation can be maintained on the nanometer order by adding preformed BMO nanoparticles, acting as effective pinning centers at low temperatures and magnetic fields. A polycrystallization sintering process enables the formation of polycrystalline REBCO films prior to REBCO orientation. By utilizing preformed BMO nanoparticles and a polycrystallization sintering process, BMO doped GdBCO over 100 m-long tapes with a thickness of more than 3 μm can be achieved, which is the first report of 120-meter-long artificial pinned REBCO tapes with I-c exceeding 200 A/4 mm width at 77 K, self-field made by the FF-MOD method.

Effect of Ta irradiation on microstructure and current carrying properties of YBCO coated conductors with element doping

Yu Gu et al.

Summary: The research shows that the negative magnetization of the YBCO coated conductors is enhanced after irradiation with tantalum ions, leading to an increase in critical current density and pinning force. The critical current density of the YBCO CCs is improved by 4.4 times at 1 T and 30 K compared with the primitive sample. The microstructures of the YBCO superconducting layer reveal the presence of columnar defects with effective mixed-pinning landscapes.
